Top 5 Wednesday: Summer Reads

Hello all my fellow readers! :)

It's Wednesday, and that means, of course, that it's time for another Top 5 Wednesday Post. Top 5 Wednesday is weekly meme that was originally created by Lainey, and is now being ran by Sam! If you're interested in becoming a part of it, or you're just looking to know more about it, head on over to the goodreads page:

https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/118368-top-5-wednesday.

I can't even tell you how excited I was when I saw this topic on the list of May's 2016 topics. I love summer reads, and there's honestly so many that I seem to keep reading and rereading because they either remind me of summer in general, or a specific summer where I read them for the first time. As always, I had trouble picking just five, but here's the ones I ended up deciding on, and I can't wait to see which books everyone else picks for this week's topic.

1) The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han

My first pick this week definitely has to be one of my all time favorite books, The Summer I Turned Pretty. Not only do I love how it;s set in a beach town, I also love how it's a flashback novel so the reader is treated to the highlights, and sometimes the lows, of many summers before. From reading this novel, I absolutely wish that Cousins beach was an actual place, and if any of you guys are looking for a new read this summer, this is definitely my top recommendation.

2) Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson

It's no secret that I'm completely obsessed with Morgan Matson's books, and honestly I think any one of her novels would have been the perfect fit for this list. I'm personally going with Second Chance Summer, because it's my favorite of hers, and I love how Taylor has to come to terms with the people she's disappointed, in her favorite place on Earth. I also love how while it is definitely has a sweet side to it, there's also deeper issues occurring throughout, and I personally loved this one, and always choose to reread it over the summer.

3) Along For The Ride and The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen

I remember first reading a Sarah Dessen novel, (That Summer), years and years when it first came out, and ever since then, her books are always some of my favorite summer reads. I love how so many of them focus on her fictional beach town Colby, North Carolina, and also how there's often guest appearances throughout the town of characters introduced in previous books. Her books are always the perfect read for the beach or the pool, and I've honestly lost track of how many times I've read some of them.

4) Broken Hearts, Fences, and Other Things To Mend by Katie Finn

On top of loving Morgan Matson's books, I'm also a huge fan of the books she pens under her pen name. This book, while definitely more catty and sneaky than the books written under her actual name, still always makes me think of summer, and the beach, and all the other goodies associated with that time of the year. I'm really looking forward to continuing on with this series this summer. I received the second one for Christmas, but I honestly decided to wait for summer to read it, as it just seems to be a summer read to me.

5)  This Is What Happy Looks Like by Jennifer E Smith

Lastly, I'm picking this adorable read by Jennifer E Smith. Once again, I love the fictional beach town created in this novel, and also, anyone who knows me knows that I'm always a sucker for the famous person falling in love with the regular person type of book, so this one is definitely right up my alley. I especially enjoyed how she wrote a novella as a continuation of this series, as I really didn't think it received the ending I was hoping for, but it's still overall a great book! :)

That's my picks for this week's Top 5 Wednesday! I'm hoping to get to reread many of these again this summer, but I guess that will honestly depend on how fast I work through the other books on my TBR list.

Thanks for reading everyone! I'm really looking forward to seeing what books everyone else picked this week, and I will be back on Friday with my last RT recap!

  1. Great post Kirby! I really should've mentioned Jenny Han in my post because she is one of my favorite contemporary authors! I read her books right as I started reading YA and they left such a huge impact on me. I think I've read We'll Always Have Summer around 4 times now. :D I had no idea that Sarah Dessen's books took place in NC! I'll definitely have to read some more of her not only because it has been such a long time but also due to the fact that I live in NC! Thanks for visiting my blog earlier. I just followed you! :)

I was so excited about her announcement that she's writing a new Lara Jean novel, and Ahh can't wait to read it! You should definitely read Sarah Dessen, her books are amazing, and I'm so jealous that you live in North Carolina, it's on my dream list of places to visit some day! I just found your blog on Wednesday, but I can tell you that I completely love it! I can tell we have a lot of the same tastes in books, and you'll definitely be seeing me commenting lots on your future posts! Thanks so much for following me!
