Top 5 Wednesday: Favorite Character Names

Hey guys!

I'm so excited to be taking part in this week's Top 5 Wednesday Post, especially since I ended up having to miss out on last week's topic. :(

For anyone who's unfamiliar, Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme that was created by Lainey from gingerreadslainey, and is now moderated by Sam from Thoughts on Tomes. The group communicates through goodreads, and you should check out the link if you're interested in learning more about it.

I can definitely say as a booknerd, that there's been many, many times that I've completely fallen in love with a character's name while reading a book, and today I'm excited to share my favorite character names of all time with you guys for this week's topic, Favorite Character Names.

1) Etienne St.Clair from Anna and The French Kiss:

I have to of course, start with my favorite character name of all time, and that is Etienne St. Clair from Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. I loved the history surrounding his name, how he was named after a saint, and I also loved how this name was so unique for being a character in a YA contemporary. I'm currently trying to convince my hubby that if we ever have a son, we should totally name him Etienne, but so far it's not going so well.

2) Katsa from Graceling:

From the first moment I picked up Graceling by Kristin Cashore, I completely fell in love with the name Katsa. It was once again so unique from any other name I'd ever heard used as a character, and I thought it really represented her strong heroine character perfectly. In fact, I loved this name so much that we ended up naming our kitty Katsa, when we adopted her from the animal shelter. :)

3) Hermione Granger from Harry Potter:

I honestly adore how regal Hermione's name sounds. I think that not only did J.K. Rowling pick an amazing name, but she also picked a perfect name to describe her character. Before I ever read this series, or watched the movie, I just had a feeling from her name what kind of character she was going to be, and I was definitely not disappointed. I really love the unique names that so many authors are able to come up with for their characters, and Hermione is definitely one of my all time favorite examples of this.

4) Sunny and Rayne McDonald from the Blood Coven Vampire series:

I really love this humorous vampire series by Mari Mancusi, and I also love how the character names she chose for the two main characters continues on with the books humorous content. Sunny is the happy go lucky twin, who definitely never wanted anything to do with the vampire culture, hence she is the "sunny" twin. Rayne on the other hand, is the darker, more sinister type, and as such she is "the rain to her twin's sun." My favorite part of this series is how Mari Mancusi portrays the vampire culture in a serious light, and while many vampire series, like Twilight and Vampire Academy, remain my all time favorites, it was also nice to read a comical account of vampires for a change, and I loved the way she used the characters name to help with her stereotypical type of humor used throughout this novel. As such, neither Sunny or Rayne would have stood out to me as amazing character names on their own, but I loved how their combined names are used for a purpose in this series.

5) Lastly, I'm going with Alina Starkov from Shadow and Bone:

It's no secret just how much I loved this amazing book by Leigh Bardugo, although I've yet to read the rest of the trilogy, and I seriously loved all the amazing character names she uses throughout. There was something about Alina's name that just stands out to me, it sounds almost royal, and a little sinister even, and I really think it perfectly fits with the character.

Thanks for reading guys! There's so many more amazing character names I love, but these were just the five I chose to share this time. I can't wait to read which names everyone else chose, and if you took part in this week's topic, please let me know as I would love to read it!
