The Heartbreakers by Ali Novak Review

Happy Halloween Guys!

I hope you're all having a fabulous holiday. I'm currently rocking my rt d2 costume, and getting ready to hand out candy to trick or treaters.

I've finally emerged from my reading slump, and I can tell you that I'm feeling a whole lot better too. :)

It seemed only fitting that the book that pulled me out my slump was one of the ones I'd been the most highly anticpating reading from my TBR shelf, and that was, The Heartbreakers by Ali Novak.

If you haven't read my RT Booklovers recap posts, I had the pleasure of getting to meet Ali at RT, and she's one of my all time favorite authors. I had told her several times throughout the week that her novel My Life With The Walter Boys is one of my all time favorites, and she surprised me with giving me an arc of her currently available novel, The Heartbreakers.

I honestly can't wait to share my review of this awesome novel with all of you guys, so let's go ahead and get started!

I received a complimentary copy of this novel from the author. That in no way influences my opinion, and this review is one hundred percent honest.

The Heartbreakers by Ali Novak:

Source: Complimentary from author

Publisher: Sourcebooks

Publication Date: August 4th, 2015

Synopsis:

Stella will do anything for her sick sister, Cara-even stand in line for an autographed Heartbreaker's cd...for four hours. She's totally winning best birthday gift this year. At least she met a cute boy with soft brown hair and gorgeous blue eyes while getting her caffeine fix. Too bad she'll never see him again.

Except, Stella's life has suddenly turned into a cheesy love song. Because Starbucks boy is Oliver Perry-lead singer for the Heartbreakers. And even after she calls his music crap, Oliver still gives Stella his phone number. And whispers quotes from her favorite Disney movie in her ear. OMG what is her life?

But how can Stella even think about being with Oliver-dating and laughing and pulling pranks with the band-when her sister could be dying of cancer?

My Review:

Considering the fact that Ali Novak is one of my all time favorite authors, and that I'm always a sucker for the "famous person falling for a regular person" type of story line, it's no secret that I was really excited for this novel. Mixing Ali's signature writing style, with one of my favorite story lines, and an eccentric and hilarious cast of characters definitely made this book a winner in my eyes.

Stella may be the only girl in the world who's not obsessed with the Heartbreakers. In fact, not only is she not obsessed, but honestly, she can't stand their music, and thinks its worthy of needing to wear earplugs. However, her sister Cara loves them, and Cara just happens to need some cheering up since her cancer diagnosis is bleak, and she doesn't have a lot to look forward to right now. Well Stella and her brother think an autographed Heartbreakers CD will be just the thing to bring some light back to their sister's eyes, and so an impromptu road trip where the Heartbreakers are doing a radio signing is definitely in order.

Alas, things definitely don't got as planned, when Stella meets a cute guy at Starbucks, who later turns out to be Oliver Perry, the lead singer of the Heartbreakers who Stella just waited four hours in line to meet, only to get turned away at the front of the line.

Maybe fate however has a different plan for Stella, when she ends up in her hotel elevator with not only Oliver, but all four Heartbreakers, and ends up going on a rant about how much she can't stand them, which honestly had me completely cracking up. What follows will be a change that Stella could have never seen coming, and a chance for her to finally achieve the dreams and goals she's always had for herself.

This novel honestly touched me in a lot of ways, as the emphasis that's put on family was endearing and honestly so refreshing for a YA novel. Drew, Cara and Stella may be triplets, but they're also best friends. And all are on their way to learn a valuable lesson about learning how to let go, and live their own lives, without being in one another's shadow. The sibling's bond was definitely one of my favorite parts of the novel, and I especially loved Cara's character. She was so selfless, and hated the idea of her siblings having to give up anything because of her disease. Also, even though the Heartbreakers are her favorite band, she encouraged Stella to continue her interactions with them, instead of letting the green eyed monster take over and resenting her sister.

I also loved the Heartbreakers themselves. This group of guys were so hilarious, and I loved the antics that they always got up to, and the way that their manager and bodyguard basically had to babysit them while on tour. You could tell how much they cared about each other, and just how much all four of them come to care about Stella, after she becomes more closely involved with them.

I was honestly a little nervous about how I was going to feel about the romance element of this novel, since I'd read a few reviews that described it as insta-love, which everyone knows I'm not a fan of. However, I didn't get that impression from the love story at all. Rather, the beginning felt to me like puppy love, and this grew into something more serious as they got to know each other better, and I loved every stinkin adorable second of it. :)

Once again, Ali Novak has not let me down, and I rated this book five out of five stars. Guys, I can't recommend her books enough, and her writing style reminds me a lot of Morgan Matson, who everyone knows is another of my all time favorites. If you haven't tried Ali's books yet, I definitely encourage you to do so, and I'm going to be anxiously awaiting the next release in the Heartbreaker Chronicles.

Thank you guys so much for reading, and I'll see you tomorrow for a new Top Ten Tuesday post!
