The Story Peddler by Lindsay A Franklin Review

Hello Everyone :)

I hope you're all doing well, and I want to thank you all for joining me for another book review here on The Preppy Book Princess.

With how many days I ended up having to take off work to rest thanks to my injuries from a bad fall I took, it's probably not surprising that I finished quite a few books more than I'd originally planned on.

I ended up reading quite a few amazing books that definitely made my somewhat boring days of resting and healing that much more bearable.

One such book was The Story Peddler by Lindsay A Franklin, and I knew as soon as I finished reading it that I needed to post a review of it in order to share about this amazing story with you all.

The Story Peddler by Lindsay A Franklin:

Synopsis:

Selling stories is a deadly business

Tanwen doesn’t just tell stories—she weaves them into crystallized sculptures that sell for more than a few bits. But the only way to escape the control of her cruel mentor and claw her way from poverty is to set her sights on something grander: becoming Royal Storyteller to the king.

During her final story peddling tour, a tale of treason spills from her hands, threatening the king himself. Tanwen goes from peddler to prey as the king’s guard hunts her down . . . and they’re not known for their mercy. As Tanwen flees for her life, she unearths long-buried secrets and discovers she’s not the only outlaw in the empire. There’s a rebel group of weavers . . . and they’re after her too.

My Review:

It's always a little nerve wracking when you finally pick up a book that you've heard nothing but great things about it. Can it possibly be as great as everyone claims it is? Will you end up being the one person that feels differently? Can it possibly live up to all the expectations you've built up for it in your mind? All these questions and more were swimming around in my mind when I finally decided to pick up The Story Peddler by Lindsay A Franklin. From reading its synopsis, this book sounded like a bookworm's ultimate dream. I can't even imagine how amazing it would be to see the tales you spin truly come to life in glorious story strands that amaze and enchant everyone around you who's lucky enough to see them. Of course, anything that's magical and beautiful also has a darker side. In The Story Peddler this point is beautifully illustrated as the main protagonist, Tanwen, struggles to come to terms with what her gift truly means, and what the truth of the story weaver's history truly is.

Without a doubt, this beautiful novel is one of the most original stories I've ever read. Lindsay A Franklin has woven a captivating tale of love, life, subordination, and that truth can truly prevail no matter what the circumstances. A good portion of the story focuses on the fact that art and beauty can bring truth to the light; even when it's a truth that dark figures have gone to extreme measures to try and keep hidden no matter what the cost. As a Christian, I loved the emphasis on a true Creator; a Creator who's been pushed into the recesses as new stories and ideas are attempted to cover up His ultimate truth. I loved the parallels to the Christian walk of faith, and the underlying notion that truth prevails, and good will always triumph over evil.

Lindsay's character development was also spot on. I literally enjoyed reading about each and every character; even the dark ones as everything felt so colorful and so full of life in each and every passage. Tanwen was a protagonist I truly enjoyed. She struggled, but her heart was full of love for each and every person she's come to care about. She demonstrates many selfless characteristics as she strives to protect all of who has come to be important to her. I loved that the reader is also given a few chapters in two other character's point of views. This just added another element to the story, and yet never turned confusing as most of the tale is spun from Tanwen's point of view.

I've stated in many of my other book reviews how much I despise love triangles. I often feel like they're thrown in lazily just to add some depth to the plot. I was a little leery when I heard that The Story Peddler includes a slight love triangle. However, I think this in itself is an indication for just how talented of a storyteller Lindsay is. Not only did the triangle not annoy me, but I really enjoyed its inclusion and both of Tanwen's would be male suitors. I'll be interested to see how this triangle plays out in the rest of the trilogy, as I have a feeling that it's final resolution will be because of what Tanwen truly wants. It won't be because one of them suddenly reveals a fatal character flaw so the the protagonist has an easy choice, as is so often the case with other love triangles I've despised reading about.

I could honestly go on and on about this amazing story, but I don't really want this review to be as long as the book itself. I will say that if you haven't yet read this amazing story then you need to do so. It without a doubt lived up to all my expectations for it, and my only complaint ended up being that I found the first eighty pages or so to be extremely slow moving.

I can't wait to continue on with this trilogy. I've definitely discovered a new favorite fantasy novel, and I can't express enough how much I appreciated that this one is fairly clean.

Final Rating: 4/5

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day!
