Pulp Friction by Julie Anne Lindsey Review

 Hello Friends?

Have you all had a great October? I'm a little disappointed that ours was a really dry month, as usually rainy days in October are my absolute favorites.

I'm really enjoying getting to go for walks though, so the nicer weather has been good for that.

This fall I've really found myself wanting to read cozy mysteries, and I've worked through quite a few of them in the last little while.

I recently finished the second book in Julie Anne Lindsey's Cider Shop Mystery series, and can't wait to tell you all what I thought about it.

You can check out my full review of the first book in the series below:

Apple Cider Slaying

Pulp Friction by Julie Anne Lindsey:

Source: Libby App

Publication Date: April 28th, 2020

Genre: Cozy Mystery

Series: A Cider Shop Mystery

Synopsis:

Nothing’s sweeter than a fruitful family business, and for Winona Mae Montgomery and her Granny Smythe, that means Smythe Orchards in Blossom Valley, Virginia. But this year’s apple crop is especially juicy—with scandal . . .

SEEDS OF DANGER

Thanks to Winnie's new cider shop, Smythe Orchards is out of the red and folks can get their fix of the produce and other delectable products they love all year round. The locals are even booking the shop for events, including a June wedding! Winnie couldn’t be happier to see the barn filled to the rafters for the big bash—until her doting ex, Hank, is caught in a heated argument with the groom. Winnie plans to scold Hank after the party, but spots him running off instead. And when the groom turns up dead, apparently hit by the honeymoon getaway car, Hank is the main suspect. Now Hank is on the lam, and it’s up to Winnie to get to the core of the truth—before the real killer puts the squeeze on her . . .

My Review:

I loved getting another visit to Smythe Orchard, and Winnie's lovely cider shop. I think this series is fast becoming one of my favorites by this author (including under her various pen names), and I could barely put it down once I picked it up.

When the groom of a wedding being catered by Wynnie at her cider shop dies tragically, she finds herself once again caught up in the aftermath of a dastardly murder. While she knows that Colton wants her to stay out of it, her friends manage to drag her right into the action when her former ex, who is wanted for questioning in the murder, keeps popping up at her place unexpected. Wynnie knows the mystery is best in the hands of law enforcement, but this has once again hit a little too close to home, and she's determined to get to the bottom of everything once and for all.

I think I honestly enjoyed this one even more than the first as Wynnie has shown such character growth since then. She's turned into a strong, female protagonist who has learned her limits, and knows how to be a sensible sleuth. She's not afraid to ask for help when she needs it, and I thought this was definitely a refreshing change. The mystery is well paced and complex, and even though I had figured out a large part of what was going on, I definitely wasn't prepared for the way everything twists near the end, and I was honestly quite shocked, which I loved!

I'm definitely looking forward to continuing on with this series, and the slight glimpse into book three has me highly anticipating reading it!

Final Rating: 4/5.

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day :)

Happy Monday Friends :) I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you decided to stop by my little corner of the internet. My husband and I actually have this week off of work for a much needed holiday, and I'm excited for the many fun things we have planned. I also hope to have lots of time to curl up with some great reads, and I recently had a chance to read one of my most anticipated 2023 releases! Earlier in the year, I read my first novel by Susannah B. Lewis, and I couldn't have loved it more. It was definitely one of my favorite reads of this entire year, and I've been looking forward to reading her next release ever since. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...
