Good Morning Bookish Lovelies :)
I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you've taken the time to drop on by The Preppy Book Princess today for another book review.
It's been a couple of long crazy weeks, and unfortunately that means my blogging time has been practically non existent. However, I wanted to get at least one more Christmas in July post up before the end of the month for you all, and that's exactly what I'm here to share today.
Today's review is a review that I'm particularly excited to share with you all, and that's primarily for two reasons.
1) I love getting to share about books during the Christmas season (or the Christmas in July season) that highlight the true reason for the season, and this one definitely does.
2) If you didn't already know this about me, which I'm sure some of you don't, I absolutely adore A Christmas Carol. I've read and watched so many variations and spin offs over the years with my favorites being the classic story by Dickens himself, the spin off story The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand, and surprisingly, The Muppets Christmas Carol.
So when I stumbled upon this advent devotional that consists of reflections on A Christmas Carol, I knew I needed to go ahead and read it.
I can't wait to share with you guys all about it, and I hope you'll continue reading down below for today's full review.
Keeping Christmas: 25 Advent Reflections on A Christmas Carol by Allison Pittman:
Source: Bought for Myself
Publisher: Baker Books
Publication Date: September 1st, 2020
Genre: Christian Non-Fiction/Devotional/Christmas Read
Synopsis:
Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol is second only to the nativity story itself when it comes to public consciousness. Just as Jesus Christ changed the world on the night of his birth, so Ebenezer Scrooge changes during a single night of supernatural visitations.
In Keeping Christmas , novelist and Dickens enthusiast Allison Pittman offers 25 readings for advent, seamlessly bringing together the Word of God and the words of A Christmas Carol . This contemplative, entertaining read is the perfect companion for those dark winter nights as we eagerly anticipate the coming celebration of Christmas when, like Scrooge, we are given the gift of reflection, repentance, and life anew.
Beautifully packaged and highly designed throughout, Keeping Christmas is sure to become a treasured family tradition--much like the reading or viewing of A Christmas Carol .

My Review:
I'd read a couple of author Allison Pittman's fictional titles before picking this one up, and had honestly not cared for any of them. I had kind of started thinking that her writing style might just not be for me, but I still was drawn to this book and decided to give it a try anyways. I ended up being so grateful I did, as this was a wonderful book that parallels connections between the scriptures, and one of literacy's best selling books of all times.
While the parallels are not always perfect, Pittman does a masterful job of showcasing that God can use unintended circumstances to shine a light on His story, and I appreciated the fact that the author acknowledged that this was most likely the case with A Christmas Carol.
This book has inspired me to want to reread this beloved classic through a lens of looking for Scrooge's ultimate transformation through the lens of salvation, and I loved that.
I can't say enough good things about this one, as I truly adored it from start to finish, and I loved starting each day in December by using this book to help myself reflect on what advent truly means and how it can be showcased in unexpected ways like in this beloved Christmas tale.
I also have to say that while the advent portion was fantastic and the primary reason I picked this one up, I also enjoyed how the author's love for the classic tale shines through the pages, and I ended up feeling like I learned more about one of my favorite stories as well by choosing to pick this one up.
Final Rating: 5/5.
I'm so thankful I took a chance on one more book by this author, and I can't possibly recommend this one enough.
I look forward to rereading during the Christmas season again in the very near future.
Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day :)
