It's been a very long time since I participated in a Top 5 Wednesday Post, and I really want to try and get back into doing them again.

Today's topic of "Favorite Underrated Books" is one that I definitely wanted to participate in, as I love getting to talk about some of my favorite lesser known books.
Here's my five picks:
1) Play With Me by Anna Katmore:
As everyone who reads my blog knows, I'm definitely the queen of reading contemporaries. I adore YA contemporaries, and have probably read more than I could ever even count. This self published one was one that I happened to stumble across as a free book on Kobo once, and it's been one of my favorites ever since. It tells the story of Liza, who's been in love with her best friend Anthony for as long as she can remember, unfortunately he doesn't feel the same way. However, his best friend has been in love with Liza for as long as she's been in love with Anthony, and the love entanglements, the soccer field setting, and how much I adored Ryan as a character, has made this a book that I've honestly read over and over again, and I can't recommend it enough.
2) Starstruck by Brenda Hiatt:
Starstruck is honestly one of my favorite alien novels of all time. I don't know anyone else personally who's read this, but I loved it just as much as I loved The Lux series by Jennifer L Armentrout, and Alienated by Melissa Landers. If you're a fan of alien novels, then I definitely think you'd like this one, and I will hopefully be reading the rest of the series very soon.
3) The Vampire Stalker by Allison Van Diepen:
I'm a huge fan of a lot of vampire novels including Twilight and Vampire Academy, but this lesser known novel by Allison Van Diepen is honestly my favorite vampire story. It's so different from anything I'd read before, and tells the story of a high school student, Amy, who's in love with the fictional vampire hunter she reads about in her favorite book series. Amy's in for a huge awakening however, when the vampire hunter appears in her world, as does the evil vampire he's been hunting for years. She soon finds out that they are actually from a parallel universe, and thanks to literary physics, the author wasn't just writing fiction, but was actually getting a glimpse into what was happening in the parallel universe.
This book was so unique, and such a remarkable story, and I knew I had to include it here as soon as I saw this topic was posted.
4) Lovestruck In London by Rachel Schurig:
This amazing contemporary novel actually got my pick for the best novel I read in 2016. I adored Rachel's writing style, I loved both main characters and the witty banter that exists between them, and I especially loved how despite it being one of my favorite tropes, "the famous person falling in love with the actual person", it actually felt believable, and is probably the best novel with that type of trope I've ever personally read. And not gonna lie, I've reads lots of these type of novels. Add all that to the fact that it has beautiful London as it's setting, and I can't recommend this novel enough.
5) The Revenge Playbook by Rachael Allen:
This is my last pick for this week's topic, and on top of it being an amazing story, I love the fact that it dealt with important issues like gender inequality, slut shaming, double standards, and high school hierarchies. I loved this book, and it's something I definitely think anyone could benefit from reading.

I haven't heard of any of these but I definitely want to read some now :) I am an contemporary lover as well.
ReplyDeleteI'm always excited to meet fellow contemporary lovers :) I'd definitely recommend any of these, but especially love struck in London since its one of my favorite contemporaries :)
