First Line Friday: What Momma Left Behind

Happy Friday Everyone!

I hope you all had a great week, and that you're looking forward to the weekend.

This week has definitely brought with it some blessings, as my hubby and I were able to visit his parent's for the first time this week since back at the end of February. Certain restrictions have been lifted in our province, and I was grateful for the opportunity to get to visit my in laws again.

Aside from that, I've also been reading some really amazing Christian fiction titles, and it's been a nice break away from a lot of things that have been going on.

Today I'm once again excited to be liking up with Hoarding Books for another edition of First Line Friday. First Line Friday is one of my favorite weekly memes, and it simply consists of sharing the first line of the book you're currently reading.

For this week's post, I'm going to be sharing the first line from this recently released historical Christian fiction novel that I finished a couple of days ago.

What Momma Left Behind by Cindy K. Sproles:





About The Book:

Worie Dressar is 19 years old when influenza and dysentery ravage her Appalachian Mountain community in 1898, leaving behind a growing number of orphaned children with no way to care for themselves. Worie's mother has been secretly feeding a number of these little ones on Sourwood Mountain. But when she dies suddenly, Worie is left to figure out why and how she was caring for them.

Plagued with two good-for-nothing brothers--one greedy and the other a drunkard--Worie fights to save her home and the orphaned children now in her begrudging care. Along the way, she will discover the beauty of unconditional love and the power of forgiveness as she cares for all of Momma's children.

Storyteller and popular speaker Cindy K. Sproles pens a tender novel full of sacrifice, heartache, and courage in the face of overwhelming obstacles. 






My Thoughts:

This one ended up being a little different than I was expecting, and I had trouble connecting to the main character. However, I loved the setting, a lot of the other characters, and the emphasis on family being more than just who you're blood related to. It was my first time reading a book by Cindy K. Sproles but I definitely wouldn't hesitate to pick up another one by her.

    I read this book last month and I had a very hard time getting into the story. I do agree I loved the setting and the author certainly did her research on the Appalachian mountain people but it was a hard read for me.

      Mayflower Bride sounds lovely! I love that opening line.

      I agree that What Momma Left Behind was a hard read. It was hard for me to get into, and I found it was hard reading about some of the included content.
