I love getting the opportunity to support Indie authors. I've discovered so many amazing stories doing so, and made some really great friends in the process.
Last year, Kristina Hall had contacted me about reading and reviewing her newest title, and I've been happily enjoying her books ever since.
Her new series is kind of a Christian dystopian type, and I had definitely enjoyed the first title in the series.

After the crazy way the first book ends, I couldn't wait to dive right into book two. Today I'm looking forward to sharing with you all what I ended up thinking about it.

My Review:
Refuge from the Storm is the explosive second title in Kristina Hall's Refuge series, and is just as action packed and intense as the first title was. In a world that's become corrupt beyond measure, one group of people will learn what it truly means to suffer for Christ and stand for faith when the rest of the world is willing to do anything but.
Told in both POV's of siblings Tony and Merri, the reader follows along on a heart wrenching journey that picks up shortly after the first book left off. Tony has been locked away in a high security government prison facing death for choosing to stand for his Savior. Merri hasn't had word from him since, and when he all of a sudden shows up at her door after many months, she's shocked beyond words. However, a greater threat is emerging than either could ever expect, and amongst the way, a blast from the past shows up that has both Tony and Merri questioning their faith and questioning how they can ever show forgiveness the way His Word instructs us we must.
As always, with any title I pick up by this author, I was blown away by the emphasis on faith and salvation. Kristina Hall truly writes "Christian" books, and writes in a way that causes one to truly evaluate what they would do in similar situations if standing up for Jesus brings unimaginable consequences. I always appreciate that her writing is clean and precise, and that the story is always action packed from start to finish. I was quite surprised how quickly I read through this one, and now I'm definitely looking forward to book three.
This one definitely got me thinking, and I think it's safe to say that the author has written a thought provoking piece of prose that I think every Christian could benefit from reading. I appreciated how realistically Merri's journey with doubting her faith was represented, as it is definitely something that every Christian experiences at some point, and I felt it made her much more relatable as a character.
With an emphasis on standing for His truth, forgiveness, and redemption, and trusting Him no matter what the world chooses to throw your way, Refuge from the Storm was a heart wrenching story that kept me glued to the pages from start to finish.
I do wish we'd gotten a little bit more from the redemptive arc that's included in part of the story, but I'm hoping maybe book three will dive a little more into it. That's all I'm going to say about it however, as I definitely don't want to spoil anything for anyone else.
Final Rating: 4/5.
