Awhile back, I shared my review of the first title in Jennifer Lynn Barnes' The Fixer series, and I was truly blown away by just how much I ended up enjoying it.

The majority of what I read used to be young adult fiction, and lately this has not been the case as I've been terribly unhappy with the unnecessary content thrown into so many of these titles.
So when I discovered The Fixer, and ended up completely loving it, I knew I couldn't wait to read the next title in the series.

My Review:
The Fixer had kept me on the edge of my seat for the entirety of the time I spent reading it, and I had high hopes that it would be the same with The Long Game. I was definitely not disappointed on that front, and this book is an action packed, nail biter that you will pretty much not want to ever have to put down.
The characters are further fleshed out from the first book, and the the stakes are even higher. Tess learns that you pretty much can't trust anyone in the dangerous world of Washington, DC. I have to say that I was pretty blown away by several of the plot twists, and just how intense the mystery turns out to be.
All in all, this was a pretty fantastic follow up to the magnificent first book, but I'm rating it one star lower for two main reasons.
First, this book builds up another pretty amazing sounding mystery before it's conclusion, and yet there isn't a third book. I was left feeling pretty disappointed that the book went in the direction it did, if there wasn't going to be a third book to wrap things up. Especially if you take into consideration how fast everything wraps up in the end of this one without giving enough detail to many of the main plot points.
And second, this book is even darker than I was prepared for. Obviously when you pick up a political conspiracy thriller, you're not expecting it to be all fluff. Even so, a lot of the content was way more than I was expecting, and I would definitely recommend proceeding with caution if you struggle with triggers from violence and brutality.
Overall, this was still a pretty amazing book, and the Fixer series is my absolute favorite of all the books I've read by Jennifer Lynn Barnes.
I'd definitely recommend this series to anyone who enjoys YA conspiracy/mystery titles.
