Earthbound by Aprilynne Pike Review

 Hello Friends :)

I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you took the time to join me here today on The Preppy Book Princess.

Over the last few months, I've been trying to work my way through the many piles of unread books in my home library.

If I feel something seems inappropriate or perhaps even blasphemous to my faith, it'll be discarded, but the rest I've been trying to finally make a dent in.

Unfortunately, today's review comes from one of these titles that ended up being a pretty disappointing experience.

I'll be sharing my full review down below, but I will say ahead of time that I do not recommend picking this one up if you're also a Christian reader who is trying to find clean titles that don't contain inappropriate content.

Keep reading down below for my full review.

Earthbound by Aprilynne Pike:

Source: Christmas Gift from my Hubby

Publisher: Razorbill

Publication Date: July 30th, 2013

Genre: Young Adult Fiction/Fantasy/Paranormal

Series: Earthbound

Synopsis:

Tavia Michaels is the sole survivor of the plane crash that killed her parents. When she starts to see strange visions of a boy she’s never spoken with in real life, she begins to suspect that there’s much about her past that she isn’t being told.

Tavia immediately searches for answers, desperate to determine why she feels so drawn to a boy she hardly knows. But when Tavia discovers that the aunt and uncle who took her in after her parents' death may have actually been responsible for the plane crash that killed them - and that she may have been the true intended victim - she flees for the safety of Camden, Maine, where the boy she sees in her visions instructs her to go.

Now, Tavia is on the run with no one to trust. No one, that is, except for her best friend and longtime crush, Benson.

Tavia feels torn between the boy who mysteriously comes to her at night and the boy who has been by her side every step of the way. But what Tavia doesn't know is that the world is literally falling apart and that to save it she will have to unite with the boy in her visions. Only problem? To do so would mean rejecting Benson's love. And that's the one thing Tavia Michaels swore she'd never do.

My Review:

I had received this one as a Christmas gift a few years back, and I've honestly been looking forward to reading it ever since. The synopsis sounded original and intriguing, and I was thankful to finally find the time to dive right into it.

Unfortunately, this ended up being nothing like that I was expecting. And honestly, I'm left wondering what on earth I just read.

While the initial idea behind this one might have been good, the execution is honestly a giant mess. The world building is super complex and never explained properly, the mysterious details plaguing Tavia became obvious to the reader way before she ever clues in, and the love triangle was stereotypically annoying.

The writing didn't seem to flow very smooth, and many sections seemed to be disjointed and poise more questions than answers, and they were never really explained. The sexualized content is way more than was remotely necessary, and Tavia's back and forth between the two guys in her life was extremely annoying and irksome. I have to say as well that some of the reveals that come at the end of the story made me extremely uncomfortable, and it ended up being nothing like that I thought it was going to be based off the synopsis. Earthbound was definitely not what I was expecting, and ended up being another disappointing YA read.

Final Rating: 1/5.

There just wasn't anything left to redeem this one in my eyes, and it's without a doubt one of my least favorite reads of the year so far.

I definitely do not recommend this one, especially to my fellow Christian readers who are looking for clean content.

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day :)

Della and Darby by Susannah B. Lewis Review

Happy Monday Friends :) I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you decided to stop by my little corner of the internet. My husband and I actually have this week off of work for a much needed holiday, and I'm excited for the many fun things we have planned. Aside from the fun things, I'm honestly thankful to have some extra time to get my house back in shape, and to get more organized for Christmas. I also hope to have lots of time to curl up with some great reads, and I recently had a chance to read one of my most anticipated 2023 releases! Earlier in the year, I read my first novel by Susannah B. Lewis, and I couldn't have loved it more. It was definitely one of my favorite reads of this entire year, and I've been looking forward to reading her next release ever since. If you'd like to check out that review, you can do so using the link below: Bless Your Heart Rae Sutton Otherwise, keep on reading down below for today's full review. De...

First Line Friday: Courting Mr. Emerson

Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson. About The Book: When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. Making it her mission to get him to loosen up and embrace life, she embarks on what seems like a lost cause--and finds herself falling for him in the process. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...
