Thanks So Much For Joining Me Today On The Preppy Book Princess :)
How's everyone's week been so far? I hope you're all taking time to enjoy the last few days of summer, and looking forward to fall as much as I am.
Honest to goodness my favorite time period of the year is September through December. I love fall, and everything that comes along with it, and Christmas, is of course my favorite favorite time of the year.
I saw a few days ago on Instagram that Hallmark Channel's Countdown to Christmas is less than six weeks away, and I couldn't be more excited as I'm Hallmark movie obsessed, especially when it comes to their Christmas movies. I really admire and value the fact that Hallmark continues to produce content that's suitable for the entire family, and as such, they've become my absolute favorite channel to watch.
Of course, since here in Canada we don't get the Hallmark channel, I have to watch them when they air on other TV networks, youtube or netflix, but nevertheless, I can't wait for this year's lineup as they have so many amazing sounding ones releasing this year, and I actually already did a blog post highlighting some of the ones based off books, which you can find here.
Of course, anyone who's familiar with Hallmark channel knows that they always air one or two new movies during Christmas in July, and I was finally lucky enough to be able to watch both of them last week.
Since my posts on the Hallmark movies always seem to be well received on my blog, I thought it would be fun to share with you guys all today what I thought about the first two movies of this year's Christmas movie line up.
First of all, let's talk about The Christmas Cure starring Brooke Nevin, Steve Byers, Patrick Duffy, and Kathleen Laskey:
I went into this one not really sure what to expect, as the plot about a doctor who returns home for Christmas to discover her father is planning to retire and close the family's medical clinic, ends up reuniting with her high school sweetheart, and wandering if she should stay to take over her father's practice, didn't overly appeal to meal, but the cast definitely did.
I really enjoyed Brooke Nevin in Journey Back To Christmas last year, I loved Steve Byers in Catch a Christmas Star a few years back, and I was really looking forward to seeing Patrick Duffy round out the talented cast. However, I overall didn't find myself loving this one, and it was more of a glad I watched it but probably won't rewatch it type of movie. The acting was spot on, and I enjoyed the familial ties that exist strongly in the Turner family, but I found the plot didn't really flow that well in my opinion, and I didn't find the romance unfortunately believable. Brooke Nevin and Steve Byers didn't seem to have the same chemistry they'd shown with their co-stars in previous Hallmark movies, and there really didn't seem to be a build up to where their relationship was going to go.
However, I loved the fact that it was once again a clean, heart warming Christmas movie, that focused on remembering what's truly important in life, and I'm glad I took the time to watch it, even though it wasn't quite the start to the Christmas movie season that I was expecting.
I gave this one 3 out of five stars :)
Next is Home For Christmas Day starring Catherine Bell, Victor Webster, Matreya Fedor, and Anthony Konechny.
This one I went into with high expectations, as I generally always love Catherine Bell's movies, and I'm happy to say that I wasn't disappointed in the slightest.
Home For Christmas Day focuses on an overprotective mother, Jane (Bell), who lost her husband way too soon when a military mission went wrong overseas, and ever since she's shut herself off from the rest of the world, and focuses her attention solely on her daughter, Betsy, (Fedor). When her daughter starts falling for a young soldier named Tyler (Konechny), who's been stationed at the local military base, and is due to ship out before Christmas, Jane insists on discouraging the budding relationship, as she has no desire for her daughter to experience the same heartache that she has.
The acting was spot on with this one, and the plot flowed perfectly from each scene to the next. As well, I adored both on screen romances, and thought the chemistry was paired perfectly with each couple, as well as each scene between mother and daughter.
The ending was beautifully done, and really stressed the importance of family, faith, and love, especially during the holiday season, and the circumstances that led Jane's character to finally rediscover this were heart wrenching, and definitely had me tearing up.
All in all, I highly recommend watching this one if you haven't already had the chance, and I'm so excited for the great things Hallmark channel has in store for us this holiday season if this movie is any indication of what's to come.
I gave this one 4.5/5, and I have a feeling it's definitely going to be one added to my must watch holiday movie list each year, a list that seems to get longer and longer each Christmas season.
