Happy First Day of December Everyone!
I'm so excited you're all joining me for Blogmas 2017!
I'm not gonna lie, I'm a little nervous about the time commitment it's going to be to participate in Blogmas again this year, but I'm also really looking forward to it, and so today we're going to kick things off with some YA Christmas themed books.
If you know me, you know that I'm obsessed with Christmas books, but also with YA books, and often you don't find too too many books that fall under the YA Christmas books heading, and so I'd like to talk about a few that definitely do fall under this heading.
Some of them I've read, some of them I'm reading, and some of them I will read someday, but they're all YA holiday reads, and I'm excited to share them with all you guys today.
Let It Snow by John Green, Lauren Myracle, and Maureen Johnson:
I think a lot of people are probably familiar with this one, but it's a three part novella collection about the way that Christmas Eve and Christmas Day affects three different sets of teenagers in the same town, with some hilarious antics thrown in for good measure. I wasn't personally a huge fan of John Green's story, but I really did enjoy the other two, and this is one that's been rumored to be in the process of becoming a TV movie which would be awesome!
The Twelve Dates of Christmas by Catherine Hapka:
A lesser known YA holiday story about a girl that's determined to break up with her boyfriend before college causes the ultimate separation. In order to do so, she decides to set him up with his perfect match by sending him on a series of dates, only to start realizing that maybe she's not truly ready for him to move on with someone else. I really enjoyed this cute contemporary, and would definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a light hearted Christmas story.
My True Love Gave To Me edited by Stephanie Perkins:
I'm going to be honest, and admit that I'm actually not a fan of this novella collection by some of today's best selling YA authors. I anticipated loving it, but I've read it twice through and there's only a handful of the twelve stories that I actually found myself enjoying. However, I know it's a favorite for many others, and so I'm including it in this post anyways.
Kiss Me in New York by Catherine Rider:
This one is a brand new release for this holiday season, and I just started reading it a couple of days ago. It's about a teenage girl who's taking a semester of high school in New York, far away from her home country of England. She's loving all of the new experiences she's having in New York, until her boyfriend dumps her right before the holidays. All she wants is to get back to England for Christmas, but life has other plans and she ends up meeting a fellow dumpee in the airport, and together they decide to tackle New York for Christmas. I'm already really enjoying this one, and I'm hoping one of my future Blogmas posts with be a review about it.
What Light by Jay Asher:
I like so many others was a huge fan of Jay Asher's Thirteen Reasons Why. And when I heard he had a holiday novel about a girl who's family owns a Christmas tree farm, and who ends up starting to fall for a guy with a troubled past, I definitely knew I needed to read it this holiday season, and I'm definitely enjoying it so far.
Lastly I of course have to mention, The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand:
This is another brand new release title for this holiday season, and I ended up buying it a couple of days ago which I normally never allow myself to buy books this close to Christmas, but I was completely hooked on the story from the Epic Reads First Five emails. This original novel is a spin off Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol and it tells the story of a spoiled Hollywood teenager who doesn't listen to the spirits that visit her on Christmas Even, and refuses to mend her ways. Then she dies, and ends up being forced to become one of the spirits herself. I literally cannot wait to devour this one!
