I've been focusing a lot lately on reviewing the books from Lisa T Bergen's River of Time series, and today is going to be no exception.
I recently finished the first novella in the series, Bourne, which takes place right after the third book Torrent, and I knew I definitely needed to share my thoughts and opinions with all of you guys, as so much happens in this short novella.

My Review:
Lisa T Bergen's River of Time series has pretty much had me on the edge of my seat right since I first started reading the first book. I was really interested to see if the novella's would continue with the nail-biting suspense I've come to expect from the rest of the series, especially since they're so much shorter than the full length books. I definitely ended up realizing that Lisa's writing is amazing and addictive no matter how long the story may be, and this actually ended up being one of my favorites in the series so far.
Bourne picks up right from where Torrent left off, and we see Gabi having to quickly learn to adjust to her new role, as of course in the world of Medieval Italy there's never a break from the underlying tensions arising from opposing kingdoms. Bourne is different from the previous books in the series as it's told in dual point of views, and the second POV is none other than Gabi's sister Lia. This was a really great addition to the story, as the reader gets to hear first hand about the action happening in various areas, and as well, I really enjoyed getting a first hand view of the developing feelings between Lia and Luca.
The plot line of this one largely develops around the "brotherhood" that's hinted at in books two and three, and I'm happy to say that this is further explained in Bourne, and hearing the origins of it were probably my favorite part of the novel. I've always admired Marcello's strong faith, and it was really endearing how the symbol of the brotherhood developed from it. Him trusting Gabi enough to let her in on the secrets of this sacred brotherhood really illustrated to the reader just how much he's come to care for her, and Bourne definitely showcases my favorite moments of Gabi of their relationship so far.
Bourne may be short, but a lot is packed into its action filled pages, and I found myself captured and wrapped up in the world and developing story right from the first page. I continued to be impressed with Gabi and Lia's bravery and selflessness, and the way they're not content to sit back and watch the men do their fighting for them. I really can't recommend this entire series enough, as the world building is amazing, the character's are well developed, enticing, and such a great example of strong female representation. As well, Lisa T Bergen's love for Medieval Italy definitely shines through in her vivid descriptions of the setting, and it literally feels like you're right there experiencing everything along with the characters. The River of Time series is definitely one of my favorite series I've read in 2018 so far, and I'm really looking forward to reading the last two books in the series.
