Work has been extremely stressful this week, even more so than usual, so I'm definitely glad to see the end of the week finally upon us.
Amidst all the work stress though, I did get a chance to read the second book in Lisa T Bergen's River of Time series. If you read my review of the first book in the series here, then you would remember that I'd loved it, and was really looking forward to reading the second book. Today I'd like to share with you all whether or not I thought the second book lived up to all the expectations I had for it!

My Review:
Cascade starts off right where Waterfall left off, and it took me no time to once again be drawn into this beautiful world. The She-Wolves are once again back in Medieval Italy amidst all the troubles you could possibly expect from that time period. Bubonic plague, warring kingdoms, a price on their heads; it's all in a days work for these brave heroines, except this time around there's one further catch-their mother has made the journey back with them. On top of all the action and swoon worthy romance that continues from the first book, I also really enjoyed the way that Cascade focuses a lot more on the family element than the first book did, and it was a pleasure reading about Gabi and Lia's strong relationship, and the way that this particular journey back in time is also mending their relationship with their mother.
This is definitely a series where I've come to truly love the characters, and this book was definitely no exception. Marcello and Gabi have definitely become an OTP for me, as I love how courageous and selfless they both are, and also how intense and authentic their relationship really seems to be. In this one, I also enjoyed getting to read about the budding relationship between Lia and Luca, as he was one of my favorite characters in the first book, and I'm really looking forward to seeing where Lisa T Bergen intends to take their story line. As well, a new character is introduced in this one, Lord Greco, and while we don't get to learn too much about him, he definitely peaked my interest, and I look forward to reading more about his character in the next book.
Adding in the time period in this novel where the bubonic plague struck much of medieval Italy only added to the intensity of the original story line, and I felt like I spent much of this novel on the edge of my seat. Their were a lot of plot twists and turns that I truly never saw coming, and I love when an author can truly surprise me with the way the plot develops. While I did find this one was slightly less character/story driven than the first book, it was still an amazing sequel, and definitely did the first book justice!
Overall, I think it's safe to safe that The River of Time series is fast becoming one of my new all time favorites, and I'd highly recommend it. If you like strong female characters, swoon worthy male love interests, time travel, action scenes, plot twists and turns, three dimensional secondary characters, and a vividly described setting that truly comes alive within the pages, then I highly recommend that you go ahead and pick this one up!
