So Over My Head by Jenny B Jones Review

Hello Everyone :)

I hope you're all having a great week, and I want to thank you all for joining me today here on The Preppy Book Princess.

If you've been reading my blog for awhile, then you probably already know that my all time favorite genre is young adult fiction, especially young adult contemporaries. However, it makes me sad that there isn't a ton of Christian novels within this genre. So you can imagine how happy I was last summer to discover the wondrous reads that are Jenny B Jones' YA novels.

I read There You'll Fine Me (Review here) last summer, and I was instantly hooked on her writing.

This year I decided to try out the Charmed Life Mysteries series, and I loved them. I reviewed books one and two here and here, and today I'm excited to share my review of the third and final book with you all.

So Over My Head by Jenny B Jones:

Source: Library

Publisher: Thomas Nelson

Publication Date: May 3rd, 2010

Genre: Christian Fiction/Young Adult

Series: Charmed Life Mysteries

Synopsis:

Newly single, stalked by a killer, and in desperate need of some chic clown shoes--Bella is one skinny mocha frapp away from total meltdown. When the Fritz Family Carnival makes its annual appearance in Truman, Bella's keen reporter instincts tell her the bright lights hide more than they reveal. Her suspicions are confirmed when one of the stars is murdered. Though the police make an immediate arrest, Bella doubts this case is quite that simple. She needs her crime-solving boyfriend, Luke, more than ever. Problem is, his ex-girlfriend has moved back to town, giving Bella some murderous thoughts of her own. Then again, there's no time for a relationship crisis when Bella's doing her best to derail her father's wedding and stay one step ahead of a killer. Is God sending her a message in all of this madness? With a murderer on the loose and her boyfriend's ex on the prowl, this undercover clown has never had more to juggle--or more to risk.

My Review:

Each installment of the Charmed Life Mystery series has had me laughing outright and feeling all the warm fuzzies. Bella Kirkwood has come a long way from her first appearance in So Not Happening, and I'm happy that this final title gave her epic story the conclusion it deserves.

Bella's up to her usual antics, and her and Luke continue to go back and forth with their feelings for each other. Bella's just gotten used to her new life and family in Truman, and now everything's up in the air again as her dad prepares for his new marriage to a woman that Bella doesn't completely trust. With everything Bella already has on her plate, the last thing she probably needed was another mystery, but of course a new one just happens to fall right into her lap. Only this time, the mystery is a lot more sinister when the recent subject of her newest newspaper article winds up murdered. Bella got a lot more than she bargained for when she agreed to cover the circus for the paper, and now the beloved bearded lady has met an untimely end. Bella knows the only thing she can do is get a job at the circus, and get to the bottom of this murder once and for all.

With everything I've come to expect from Jenny B Jones hilarious writing, So Not Happening is everything I was hoping for and more. I loved Bella's newly developed relationship with her new family, I loved the character growth she's shown throughout the series, and I especially love the friendships she's developed with Luke, Lindy, Matt, Budge, and especially Ruthie, In fact, Jenny B Jones could probably write a spin off series about Ruthie and I'd happily pick it up.

While I appreciate the goofy side to these stories, I also appreciate that they touched on the struggles that emerge from blended families first coming together, and also the fact that they are one of the most realistic portrayals of being a Christian teen girl that I've ever personally read.

I'm honestly sad that I've come to the end of this trilogy, and I know that I will definitely be moving on to the Katie Parker series by Jenny in the future.

Final Rating: 4/5

I'd personally say that the first title was my favorite from the trilogy, but each title was equally entertaining, and I can't possibly recommend this trilogy enough.

Della and Darby by Susannah B. Lewis Review

Happy Monday Friends :) I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you decided to stop by my little corner of the internet. My husband and I actually have this week off of work for a much needed holiday, and I'm excited for the many fun things we have planned. I also hope to have lots of time to curl up with some great reads, and I recently had a chance to read one of my most anticipated 2023 releases! Earlier in the year, I read my first novel by Susannah B. Lewis, and I couldn't have loved it more. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often.
