Are your reading preferences changing as the weather starts to turn toward fall? I do read a lot of the same books year round, but there are definitely books I love reading during each particular season.
One genre that I especially love reading as we move more into the fall and winter months is mysteries. There's something especially atmospheric about reading this genre during these particular months.
Last year, I started reading the middle grade Nancy Drew Diaries series, and I've really been enjoying it. It's definitely been nostalgic for me, and I've shared reviews from all the books I've read so far from this series on my blog.

My Review:
Secret at Mystic Lake is the sixth installment in Carolyn Keene's Nancy Drew Diaries series, and was another enjoyable read. I'd still say overall that the fourth book, Once Upon a Thriller, remains my favorite so far, but this one definitely did have its potential.
In this title, we find Nancy, Bess and George about to embark on a three day bike tour around the spectacular Mystic Lake to celebrate George's birthday. Things get off to a rocky start right away, and soon it's clearly evident that someone is out to sabotage the bikers, and they just might have sinister intentions.
I personally found this one to be the most spooky and spine chilling of the series, and while the end reveal wasn't a big surprise to me, I was quite taken back at how far the villain was willing to go to try and protect themself. I do have to say however that the mystery was a bit of a disappointment, and not just because I'd figured it out early on. I found overall that this one focused more on the three teens trying to survive in the wilderness, and less on the mystery itself. Plus, it felt like Nancy never really solved anything herself, and I don't care for those type of mysteries as much.
Final Rating: 3/5.
Enjoyable, but not my favorite from the series.
