Kisses and Croissants by Anne-Sophie Jouhanneau Review

I pray today finds you all doing well, and I want to thank you all for joining me for another book review here on The Preppy Book Princess.

Last year, I'd talked quite a bit on my blog about my quest to find a really great young adult contemporary story. It feels like it's been a long time since I've read a truly great title within this genre, and I've discovered many duds in the last few weeks while on this journey.

I've also discovered a couple of cute ones that were pretty enjoyable, but I have yet to discover one that truly blew me away.

Today's review is a review of another of these titles, and I hope you'll keep reading below to find out if this one ended up being the one I was searching for.

My Review:

I was initially drawn to this one for three reasons. First, the cover is gorgeous, and downright adorable, and I couldn't resist wanting to pick it up. Secondly, Anna and the French Kiss is one of my all time favorite young adult contemporaries, and the synopsis of this one reminded me heavily of it. Lastly, I've really been in the mood for an amazing young adult contemporary, and I was hoping this one would fit the bill.

While I do want to say that I loved that the majority of the focus of this one was on ballet and Paris, and that you could really tell the author had a huge passion for both, it unfortunately ended up being not quite what I was expecting.

I liked Mia's character for the most part, but I thought the romance honestly went against everything her character seemed to stand for, and I ended up not being a fan of it. At the start of the story, Mia is completely devoted to ballet, and wants nothing more than to be chosen for a position with a prestigious ballet academy. However, all of a sudden on a whim she's making entirely different choices, all for a young man that she barely spends any time with before becoming completely infatuated with.

The romance felt rushed and like insta love, and it honestly ended up being my least favorite part of the book.

I also have to mention that like so many other reviewers, I was confused by the events of the last couple of chapters of the book. It didn't seem to be necessary to the story, and it also took place over so few pages that there really wasn't time to develop that part of the story enough to make me truly sympathize with the character.

Final Rating: 3/5.

While it was enjoyable, it definitely isn't a new favorite, and if it hadn't been set in Paris at a ballet academy, I'm not sure I would have actually enjoyed this one at all.
