Nine by Rachelle Dekker Review

 Hello Everyone :)

I pray today finds you all doing well, and I want to thank you for joining me for another book review here on The Preppy Book Princess.

Are you someone who enjoys scary stories? I kind of go back and forth on this depending on my reading mood.

Somedays I really enjoy them. Somedays I'm not really in the mood for picking one up.

For the last few months, I'd had a very interesting sounding Christian thriller on my tbr, and I finally decided to pick it up and give it a go.

Keep reading below for my full review, and to find out what I ended up thinking about it.

Nine by Rachelle Dekker:

Source: Library

Publisher: Revell

Publication Date: September 1st, 2020

Genre: Christian Fiction/Suspense/Thriller

Synopsis:

Zoe Johnson spent most of her life living in the shadows, never drawing attention to herself, never investing in people or places. But when a wide-eyed, bedraggled teenager with no memory walks into the diner where Zoe works, everything changes. Now, against her better judgment, Zoe, who has been trying to outrun her own painful memories of the past, finds herself attempting to help a girl who doesn't seem to have any past at all. The girl knows only one thing: she must reach a woman in Corpus Christi, Texas, hundreds of miles away, before the government agents who are searching for her catch up to them.

Award-winning author Rachelle Dekker throws you into the middle of the action and keeps the pressure on in this page-turning story that, asks Are we who the world says we are--or can we change our story and be something more?

My Review:

I wasn't sure what to expect from this one, as Rachelle Dekker was a new to me author, but the synopsis sounded intriguing, and I decided to give it a go.

I appreciated the fact that the plot pulled me into the story right from the get go, and I ended up breezing through this one pretty quickly. It was suspenseful, action packed, and well paced, but unfortunately it didn't end up being quite what I was hoping for.

I was expecting more of a mystery suspense thriller, and this one instead ended up being more sci fi action than anything else. I personally found the action segments to not really hold my interest as much as the rest of the story did, and I found the lead up to everything to be a tad on the disappointing side.

I didn't personally read The Girl Behind the Red Rope before picking this one up as I had no clue they were connected. I'm not sure if reading that one beforehand would have cleared up some of Zoe's story for me, but as it was, I ended up feeling like a lot of the questions raised throughout the story concerning her were never really answered. And it felt like the ending was rushed, and didn't really wrap up the story properly.

Perhaps though what I found most disappointing with this one was the lack of a faith element. The content was extremely dark, and I kept hoping for a mention of the light of Jesus to combat all the darkness in this world. That unfortunately never happened, and it just felt like a great opportunity was missed.

All in all, this was a pretty well written novel that held my interest, and kept me engaged, but it wasn't what I was expecting, and I'm not sure this author would be high on my list of authors to try again in the future. I just wanted a bit more than what was given, and while the redemptive arc was definitely interesting, it would have been more so if the redemption had happened through our Lord and Savior.

Final Rating: 3/5.

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day :)

Della and Darby by Susannah B. Lewis Review

Happy Monday Friends :) I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you decided to stop by my little corner of the internet. My husband and I actually have this week off of work for a much needed holiday, and I'm excited for the many fun things we have planned. Aside from the fun things, I'm honestly thankful to have some extra time to get my house back in shape, and to get more organized for Christmas. I also hope to have lots of time to curl up with some great reads, and I recently had a chance to read one of my most anticipated 2023 releases! Earlier in the year, I read my first novel by Susannah B. Lewis, and I couldn't have loved it more. It was definitely one of my favorite reads of this entire year, and I've been looking forward to reading her next release ever since. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. Making it her mission to get him to loosen up and embrace life, she embarks on what seems like a lost cause--and finds herself falling for him in the process. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...
