I hope you're all doing well, and I want to thank you all for joining me for another book review here on The Preppy Book Princess.
Young Adult Contemporaries used to be my all time favorite genre. I gobbled them up as fast as I could find them, and it probably made up over half of the books I'd read in a year.
However, in recent years I've really grown disheartened with this genre. Aside from Kasie West and a couple of others, I've found that they all seem to include unnecessary content, and have way more adult sexual stuff in them than ever needs to be included in a book about two teenagers.
In the last couple of weeks, I've decided to give a few more of these books a try, in the hopes that I'll find one that fits within the guidelines I'm looking for.
I'm planning to share a wrap up of them all in the weeks ahead, but today I'm going to share one of the individual reviews from a new to me author.

Why I Loathe Sterling Lane by Ingrid Paulson:

My Review:
If you're on the lookout for a fun loving enemies to lovers young adult contemporary, then this might not be the book for you. If, however, you're looking for a read about two extremely obnoxious characters behaving like children and making life difficult for everyone around them for the entirety of the story, then this one might be for you.
It took me ages to finish reading this one. Harper has to be one of most self righteous, awful protagonists I've ever seen in a young adult novel, and she was a complete turn off for me with this book. On the other hand, Sterling is a narcissistic bully for the majority of the story, and most of their interactions read like child's play.
I appreciated that the author attempted to show that there were deep seated hurts and insecurities that had caused them to be the way they are, but this was never truly addressed properly, and the ending left everything never having a true resolution.
I could honestly have cared less about either of the characters, and their overly lusty relationship, and the mystery surrounding Harper's brother Cole couldn't even redeem this one for me. I was really looking forward to this one being set at a boarding school, as I haven't read too many books with that setting. However, it didn't really add anything to the story here, and I felt like it could have been employed way more than it was.
With a toxic relationship, obnoxious characters, and way more unnecessary content than I needed, this one was not only a book I ended up extremely disliking, but it's definitely one of the worst books I've read this entire year.

I don't personally recommend this one, nor do I ever plan on rereading it.
