Vegas For RT BookLovers: Final Days!

Happy Friday To All My Fellow Readers!

I'm so excited it's finally the weekend, and that I finally have time to catch up on everything around the house that got neglected during this insanely busy work week!

I hope everyone had a great week, and that you all have some fun things planned for the weekend!

I'm excited today to finally be posting my last recap from my RT Booklovers experience, and let me tell you guys, this one is going to be really short when compared to the others, because we didn't actually end up doing any of the RT events on our last day. So I'm going to go ahead and get this recap posted, so that I can finally start working on  my haul post from this convention, and I'm super excited to share that with all of you!

Sunday April 17th, 2016:

Saturday night was once again an awful experience thanks to the loud people in the room next door. They literally kept us up all night again, and started up at 7 am after doing so! Thankfully Neil was able to sleep through the morning noise, but I just couldn't, and so I got ready, and went and read by the pool for a few hours. I was pretty excited when someone had asked me if they could borrow the pool chair next to mine, and I'd looked up and it was Kass Morgan and Danielle Paige, which was a pretty awesome fangirl moment for me.

This was honestly a really nice time this morning, and I'm so glad I went and did this. It was finally warm enough today to spend some time at the pool, and so once Neil was awake and ready, we quickly had lunch, got sun screened up, and spent the rest of the afternoon just relaxing by the pool. There were some events still happening at RT today, but none that we were really interested in, and we had planned on doing some sightseeing in Vegas, but honestly neither of us were up to it, and I just wasn't feeling the whole be around a ton of cigarette smoke today.

I noticed a lot of other Rt people had the same idea with the pool today, and we saw a ton of authors, publicists, agents, and other convention people that we'd met throughout the week, also relaxing by the pool.

After a couple of hours here, we headed up to our room to figure out how to pack the masses of books and swag we wanted to take back with us.

We did end up filling a tote bag with the books and swag we weren't interested, and ended up giving it away, since I was sure there were other people at the convention who would want it.

We ended up just grabbing takeout from the sport's deli in the hotel lobby, and having a picnic in our room while we played cards, and both curled up with awesome books before we went to bed, which I think was honestly a pretty fitting end to our amazing book convention experience!

Monday April 18th, 2016:

The next morning we ended up getting up super early, just because we were both so excited to finally be going home and leaving Vegas. We'd both ended up wishing we'd booked our flight back for Sunday instead of Monday, since once the majority of the RT stuff was finished, we honestly had no interest in staying in Vegas, but oh well you live and you learn, and we both definitely learned that Vegas is not the tourist spot for us.

Unfortunately, we had screw up when we went to check out, as the person who had checked us in had billed the total stay as one night's total somehow, and so they had to recharge my card, and then credit some of it back, and I was honestly a little leery at this point as to whether or not it would be straightened out.

The best decision we made all day today was to forfeit the pre-payed shuttle that we'd had such a bad experience with when we arrived, and just grab a cab instead. We were at the airport in no time, and we didn't have to make any other stops first.

We were through check in and security, and at our gate in no time. We were pretty early, but that was okay, as we'd both brought books to read, and movies to watch on the ipad. Soon enough it was time to board, and we had a relatively smooth flight back home. Unfortunately, this was the longest we'd ever seen the customs line at this particular airport, and people we're making it even worse by not paying attention when the agent's were calling them, and tying the line up that much further. All in all we waited about an hour and ten minutes to get through, and the custom's agent told us that he was super impressed that we knew to claim all the books we brought back, even though they were free, he told us that gifts are one of the hardest things they have with people not claiming, and he was pretty impressed that we'd done that one our own without needing to be told.

After leaving the airport, we quickly stopped at PetSmart, so we could grab Katsa a waterfall water dish, and a podium with a scratching post, since both were much cheaper here than in our hometown, and then were headed back home.

We stopped along the way home at the same Subway as before to have a quick dinner, and in no time at all we were arriving home, and starting to unpack the multitudes of luggage we had.

My bestie stopped by for a quick visit, and I was able to give her the books and swag I'd picked up for her, and Neil and I unpacked everything, and started laundry, and then we both fell into bed since we honest to goodness exhausted from the lack of sleep the last three nights thanks to our awful neighbors! And that concluded our amazing week at the RT Convention!

So what were my final thoughts on RT? We would honestly go again in a heartbeat! We loved the YA track, the amazing people we met, the panels, the YA reader parties, the amazing book fair, and the way it was organized, bringing home so many free books that you basically paid for your ticket!

However, I would definitely be more prepared next time for the crowds, the long waits, and the rude people that you're unfortunately going to encounter. I also, personally, next time would mainly stick with the YA events and the inspirational ones, and not worry so much about the evening parties, since they were really just not our thing, but obviously lots of people did love them, and that's awesome too.

Next year's convention is in Atlanta, which I honestly think would be a much better experience than Vegas, but we're not sure if we will be attending or not. It is a huge chum of pocket change to do the whole convention, and there's still also lots of other conventions we want to attend in the future, like bookcon, yallfest, and yallwest. I will definitely be back at RT sometime in the future though, as none of the complaints I had about this week were about RT, it was mainly Vegas that I had issues with, and I think this convention being elsewhere would make it an even more amazing experience for me.

I highly recommend giving RT a chance in the future if you haven't, and I know we're both looking forward to a teen day do-over in the future, since we missed so much of the stuff we'd been looking forward to!

Thanks for reading everyone! I will hopefully be posting my haul from this amazing convention in the next few days!
