Top 5 Wednesday: Favorite Books Outside Your Comfort Zone

Hello All My Fellow Readers :)

It's Wednesday once again, and that means of course that it's time for another Top 5 Wednesday Post.

For anyone who's unfamiliar with Top 5 Wednesday, it is a weekly meme created by Lainey from gingerreadslainey on Youtube, and is now hosted by Sam from Thoughts On Tomes, also from Youtube. The group communicates through goodreads, and here's the link if you're wanting to learn more about it:

One thing I really love about being part of Top 5 Wednesday is that it gets me thinking about topics that I probably otherwise wouldn't have. This week's topic, Favorite Books Outside Your Comfort Zone, is definitely an example of this. I read across such a wide range of genres, that I hadn't actually ever considered myself to have a "reading comfort zone," but after starting to work on this post, I discovered that there is definitely books I've picked up in recent years that the younger me never would have, and these are my 5 picks for my favorites.

1) Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins:

Books with demons in them was never something I thought I would enjoy, but I happened to stumble upon this series after watching a book recommendation video on Youtube. I ended up being really glad I gave this a try. I loved the idea of an academy for wayward supernaturals, and of course who didn't love Archer at first sight.

2) Happily Ever After by Kiera Cass:

I am generally not a huge fan of short story collections at all. I'm not even sure why this is, but I often end up massively disappointed in the ones I end up reading, but that was definitely not the case in this one by Kiera Cass. I honestly adored each of the short stories in The Selection Series, and this beautiful bind up made me appreciate them even more.

3) Six Months Later by Natalie D Richards:

I never used to read thrillers at all, as even the thought of them honestly scared me, but I've now come to love a lot of books within that genre. It was Natalie D Richard's Six Months Later that was one of the very first ones I tried, and oh my goodness I can't even describe how much I loved this book. I was so pulled into the story, that I literally read it all through in one sitting, and I have recommended this book to so many of my friends. It's amazing, and I can't wait to read her newest book that's been sitting on my shelf for a few months.

4) The Unbecoming Of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin:

I honestly don't even know what genre to classify this amazing series by Michelle Hodkin, but I know it's definitely not something I would have normally found myself reading. This is one of the most intriguing and compelling series I've ever read, and honestly I was so glad that I only ended up reading this last year. I can't imagine how brutal that wait between the book releases must have been for everyone who read them right at the start. I don't know if I see myself reading anything similar to this again in the future, and part of the reason is I just don't know if any book similar to this one could ever even come close to it.

5) The Reason Is You by Sharla Lovelace:

I read a lot of adult fiction, along with my typical YA fiction, but most of the adult fiction I read tends to be contemporaries, Christian fiction, mysteries, or general fiction. While this book is a contemporary, it also has an amazing supernatural element woven seamlessly throughout it, and this is honestly one of my favorite books of all time. I only originally took a chance on this book because it was only 99 cents on Book Outlet one day, and so I decided to go ahead and order it, and ahh I can't even describe all the feels that this book gave me when I read it for the first time, It's become a definite reread for me as well, and I highly recommend giving this one a chance.

That's it for my favorite books that are outside my comfort zone! Thanks for reading guys, and I can't wait to read everyone else's choices. :)

Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson. About The Book: When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. Making it her mission to get him to loosen up and embrace life, she embarks on what seems like a lost cause--and finds herself falling for him in the process. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest
