Top Ten Tuesday: Books That Pulled You Out Of A Reading Slump

Hello Everyone :)

It's been a loooong time since I last took part in Top Ten Tuesday, but I really liked this week's topic, and I decided it was definitely time to jump back into it.

If you're unfamiliar, Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme that was created by The Broke and The Bookish, and is now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week's topic is ten books to pull you out of a reading slump, and it's a fun one for me cause I've had so many books that have helped me out of a reading slump, and I can't wait to talk about them.

My most recent example of this is The Life Intended by Kristin Harmel. I hadn't been in too much of a reading mood during the middle of this month, and then I picked this one up off my bookshelf where it had been sitting for two and a half years. I'm so glad I finally took a chance on it, as the story was well written, perfectly paced, and had such an amazing ending that I've literally had to go back and reread the last few chapters multiple times.

Melissa Tagg was definitely the author I needed to discover in the middle of a reading slump thanks to reading so many meh books, and I honestly could have chosen any of her books to feature. However, this one I read when I really needed an amazing story, and it was a five star read for me after I'd only had two or three star reads for quite some time before it.

In my last year of of university, I wasn't spending that much time reading. Between assignments, quizzes, papers, and whatever else, I just wasn't feeling too motivated to pick up a book. However, my hubby gave me this whole trilogy for Christmas that year, and I literally inhaled it. I finished the whole trilogy in a day and a half, and it remains one of my favorites to this day.

I can always count on Becky Wade's amazing novels to pull me out of a reading slump, and True To You definitely did this for me.

In my final semester of university, I once again didn't seem to have that much time to read. However, I ended up going to the Hunger Games in the theater with my brother and a couple of our friends, and I loved it. In fact I loved it so much that I went back with my hubby who was my then boyfriend a few days later. I ended up buying the books, and celebrating writing my final exam by holing up in my room with this trilogy for a solid weekend, and it was amazing!

I definitely have to include Twilight on my list, as not only did it pull me out of a reading slump initially, but it's still a series that I turn to when I'm not feeling motivated to read. It will always remain one of my favorites.

This is still one of my all time favorite books, and it was my favorite book I read in 2017. I picked it up after having finished multiple books that I either hated or didn't really care for, and it was just such an amazing story that's really stuck with me ever since.

Earlier this year, I really wasn't enjoying the books I'd been reading, and instead of rereading a favorite series, I decided to try a classic I'd never read before, and I picked Northanger Abbey. This is exactly what I needed, and I loved it.

Sarah Dessen is another author who's book's have pulled me many, many times out of a reading slump, but I'm going to choose my favorite for this list. After reading this one, I ended up whipping through a huge stack of books right after as it had really put me in the mood to check more titles off of my tbr list. This is still my favorite Sarah Dessen book to date.

And lastly is this beautiful, lesser known story by Gaby Triana. I read this right after I'd finished a much anticipated novel that had been a huge letdown, and this definitely helped with the reading slump. I adore this one.

I can't wait to read everyone else's picks this week!

Thanks so much for reading guys, and have a great rest of your day :)

  1. It's been a long time since I've read Twilight but I did enjoy the series. I don't know if it's great enough to pull me out of a slump but it was a good read. Great list :)

    1. Thank you so much! :) For some reason Twilight always seems to work for me when I'm in a reading slump, not to sure why but I'm thankful I always have it to fall back on if need be.

Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson.
