One More Wish by Robin Jones Gunn Review

Hey Guys :)

I hope you're all doing well, and that you're all finding time to enjoy this beautiful summer.

Do any of you have those series that really impacted your teen years? While I could probably list several different ones, one that really stood out above the rest was The Christy Miller series by Robin Jones Gunn. I read the original twelve stories when I was a young teenager and they had such an impact on my life. Since then I've gone on to read The Sierra Jensen series, The Glenbrooke series, The Sisterchicks series, Departures, Christy and Todd The College Years, The Katie Weldon series, Love Finds You in Sunset Hawaii, and the Hideaway series-all of which have at least some connection to The Forever Friends characters.

So to say that I've been excited about getting to read Christy and Todd The Married Years trilogy while I myself have been married for almost five years is a definite understatement, and I was excited that after a year on the waiting list at the library it was finally my turn to read the third and final book in this trilogy.

One More Wish by Robin Jones Gunn:

Source: Library

Publisher: Robins Nest Productions

Publication Date: July 23rd, 2015

Genre: Christian Fiction/Contemporary

Series: Christy and Todd: The Married Years

Synopsis:

As Christy blows out the 26 candles on her birthday cake, she closes her eyes and makes a wish.
Could this be the year that she and Todd finally have a baby?
They know that everything will change once they have a child. Are they ready for all the adjustments a new little one would bring? Christy isn’t sure.
But as her closest friends announce they are expecting, Christy’s heart carries an ache for a child of her own.
On their way home from Sierra’s wedding, Todd opens up the discussion of adoption and soon a simple invitation turns into a life-changing season. Christy’s patience and understanding are stretched beyond her limits, and she finds herself holding not just one baby in her arms, but two.
Everything Christy and Todd thought about family and hospitality shifts as the two of them dare to make one more wish and believe that God’s timing is flawless.

My Review:

It seems almost surreal to see the fourteen year old girl who first met Todd when she was spending a summer with her aunt and uncle be a grown twenty six year old woman who's learning how to balance married life with all the craziness occurring in her and Todd's lives. Robin Jones Gunn has always written the Christy Miller books in a way that felt the reader could connect to them, and I think any young married couples can once again relate to a lot of the stress and tension Christy and Todd are experiencing in One More Wish.

Christy's always respected the fact that her and Todd embrace life from different personality types, but she's starting to grow a little frustrated with the way Todd refuses to settle down and get a decent job with health benefits. After all, it's because of Todd's sporadic income earnings that Christy has to work two jobs, and keep up the crazy pace of having a six day schedule. On top of all the financial stress she's struggling with, Christy's also struggling with the idea of whether or not she'll ever truly be ready to take the next step to being a mom.  Her life already seems to be crazy, and not going the way she planned, and then more craziness is piled on top when Doug and Tracy and their energetic toddler Daniel need a place a stay to stay for a few months. Christy doesn't handle it well, and doesn't understand why she's being forced to give up the solace of her quiet home. However, it's through deep reflection with Jesus that she realizes she's finally being given the chance to use her gift of hospitality, and that all comes together for the good of Christ when we open our hearts to His will.

I really enjoyed getting another visit with Christy and Todd, and seeing the way they're adapting to married life and all the changes that come with it. It was definitely a bonus to get to see moments of some of the other Forever Friends characters like Sierra, Katie, Doug and Tracy. If you were a fan of the original Christy Miller books, then I definitely think you'll enjoy this one as well, and as always, I appreciate the way that Robin Jones Gunn writes stories about characters who aren't perfect who are experiencing real issues. All in all, this one was definitely worth the wait, and I look forward to continuing on with the baby years soon.

Final Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day, and I'll see you all again soon.

Della and Darby by Susannah B. Lewis Review

Happy Monday Friends :) I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you decided to stop by my little corner of the internet. My husband and I actually have this week off of work for a much needed holiday, and I'm excited for the many fun things we have planned. Aside from the fun things, I'm honestly thankful to have some extra time to get my house back in shape, and to get more organized for Christmas. I also hope to have lots of time to curl up with some great reads, and I recently had a chance to read one of my most anticipated 2023 releases! Earlier in the year, I read my first novel by Susannah B. Lewis, and I couldn't have loved it more. It was definitely one of my favorite reads of this entire year, and I've been looking forward to reading her next release ever since. First Line Friday: All's Fair in Love and Cupcakes

Happy Friday Everyone :) I hope you've all had a great week, and that you're looking forward to the weekend. Today I'm excited to once again be linking up with Hoarding Books for First Line Friday. First Line Friday is one of my favorite weekly memes, and it simply consists of sharing the first line of the book you're currently reading. I've had a lot of extra reading time on my hands lately because of all the social distancing, and as such, I've been able to read a lot of the titles that have been sitting on my shelves for quite some time. Today's book is one of such titles, and I'm happy that I finally found the time to get to it as I'm really enjoying it so far. All's Fair in Love and Cupcakes by Betsy St. Amant: About the Book: Kat inspected rows of the same old cupcakes. They seemed to blink back at her, as if they knew she was capable of so much more. Kat Varland has had enough of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. At twenty-six years old...
