Unleashing Mr Darcy Hallmark Movie Review

Hello Everyone :)

I hope you're all doing well, and I want to thank you all for joining me today on The Preppy Book Princess.

A couple of weeks ago I was a bit under the weather with a nasty virus that had been going around work, and I ended up watching a few Hallmark movies. Watching Hallmark movies is pretty much my favorite thing to do whenever I'm sick, and I realized it's been a really long time since I last posted a review of one.

So today I'd like to share with you all a quick review of a new all time favorite for me, Unleashing Mr Darcy. I was definitely intrigued by this one, as I love Pride and Prejudice, and let me tell you that it definitely did not disappoint. There's a sequel coming to the Hallmark channel in June, titled Marrying Mr. Darcy, and so today seemed like the perfect day to post my review of the first movie.

Unleashing Mr. Darcy:

Synopsis:

In this modern day spin on “Pride & Prejudice,” Elizabeth Scott (Cindy Busby), is fishing for direction in her life and gets the opportunity to professionally show her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel in a fancy New York dog show. Dog show judge Donovan Darcy (Ryan Paevey) comes across as aristocratic and rude and a chain of misunderstandings unfold during the competition, complicating their mutual attraction. In true Jane Austen fashion, Elizabeth and Donovan begin to see the error of their ways and it turns out Mr. Darcy is far more kind and interesting than Elizabeth ever imagined.

My Review:

It's no secret that I adore Hallmark Channel movies. While my friends and family get all excited about new Blockbuster films hitting the theater, I'm always more excited for what new movies are going to be coming to the small screen on Hallmark Channel. And while I'd seen my fair share of Hallmark movies, I'd never actually seen Unleashing Mr.Darcy, a fact that was quite surprising considering just how many times I'd had it recommended to me, especially as a Pride and Prejudice fan. So I finally decided the time had come to sit down and watch this one, and I'm very happy so say that I've discovered a new favorite Hallmark movie.

Unleashing Mr. Darcy stars Cindy Busby as Elizabeth Scott, and Ryan Paevey as Donovan Darcy. The film opens with Elizabeth Scott teaching at a prestigious private school, where she's passionate about helping her student's succeed. However, her passion to see her student's receive the education they deserve opens a big can of worms when she insists that one of her student's who's failing her class commit extra time to his studies, a fact that conflicts with his lacrosse practice. Soon Elizabeth is witnessing first hand the lengths that wealthy parent's will go to protect their children, and when she refuses the bribe the father offers her to let the whole situation go away, she finds herself expelled from her position, and in need of something to keep her mind occupied from the whole situation.

Enter her mom's best friend Gabrielle who gives Elizabeth a new job proposition-come visit her in New York and help her show her beloved Terriers in New York's prestitigious dog circuit. The only problem-not only is Donovan Darcy, the arrogant judge Elizabeth has already had one awful encounter with, the judge on this circuit, he's also Gabrielle's neighbor. Just like the classic Elizabeth and Darcy, Lizzie and Donovan rub each other the wrong way, and have a consistent pattern of bringing out the worst in each other. And of course this is only multiplied when Darcy's aunt Violet comes in the picture, and her pick for Donovan's intended, Felicity. As all the odds stack up against this unlikely pairing, it seems their chemistry has no place to go. However, Elizabeth is about to discover that life rarely works out the way we expect it too, and in the process, she just might find the place she's truly meant to belong.

While Unleashing Mr. Darcy has to work within the time constraints of a made for television movie, and takes quite a few liberties from the classic story, it was an amazing, heart felt addition to the Hallmark Channel that does a fantastic job of modernizing these beloved characters. I truly adored the addition of some of the classic book elements like Darcy's teenage sister Zara, who even though in this rendition she's more of a normal teenager than the slight prodigy she was in the classic, she was definitely still one of my favorite parts of the story. Moreover, Cindy Busby and Ryan Paevey were the perfect choices to bring this wonderful story to life, and their chemistry shined through right from the start.

I definitely have to mention the ball scene, as it was a favorite, and I enjoyed the fact that they paid homage to how much wardrobe mattered in the original classic story. Both Elizabeth and her sister Jenna's dresses were gorgeous, and we're exactly what I'd expect from a modernized Pride and Prejudice tale. I wasn't sure how I'd end up feeling about most of the setting of the movie being around dog shows, as I'm definitely not a dog person, but I honestly adored this, and thought it was such a unique idea for a Pride and Prejudice retelling.

And now let's get to the good stuff guys, because most of us choose Hallmark Channel movies for the romance element, and let me tell you it was spot on in this one. Darcy and Lizzie have a chemistry that builds from their first argumentative encounter, and it only gets better and better throughout the rest of the movie. They could not have cast the main couple better, and I was also pleasantly surprised with just how much I enjoyed the side romance featured between Jenna (Elizabeth's sister), and Henry (Darcy's best friend). Throw in sizzling chemistry, swoon worthy quotables like "I'll look forward to seeing that fabulous dress of yours tonight", and many melt worthy moments, and I can honestly say that Unleashing Mr Darcy has become a new favorite for me.

My Final Rating is five out of five stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ and I can't recommend this beautiful, modernized story enough.

I look forward to reading the book it's adapted from by Teri Wilson in the very near future, and I will be anxiously awaiting June to find out what else Hallmark Channel has in store for these beloved characters!

Thanks so much for reading guys! I highly recommend checking this one out if you haven't already seen it, and I'd love to hear what other Hallmark movies are you favorites.

I hope you all have a great rest of your day, and I'll see you all again on Wednesday.
