One of my all time favorite genres is Amish fiction, and I've honestly been reading titles within this genre since I was a child. Two of my first forays into adult Christian fiction were Janette Oke's wonderful books, and the amazing Amish fiction titles by Beverly Lewis. Ever since, I've loved discovering new to me Amish fiction authors, and there's been so many amazing ones that I've fallen in love with their books over the years. A couple of years ago, I read my first title by Sarah Price and I was instantly hooked. Her stories were sweet, original, and had me never wanting to have to put them down. Over the last few months, I've been trying to work my way through the many piles of unread books in my home library. If I feel something seems inappropriate or perhaps even blasphemous to my faith, it'll be discarded, but the rest I've been trying to finally make a dent in. Unfortunately, today's review comes from one of these titles that ended up being a pretty disappointing experience. Young Adult Contemporaries used to be my all time favorite genre. I gobbled them up as fast as I could find them, and it probably made up over half of the books I'd read in a year. However, in recent years I've really grown disheartened with this genre. Aside from Kasie West and a couple of others, I've found that they all seem to include unnecessary content, and have way more adult sexual stuff in them than ever needs to be included in a book about two teenagers. In the last couple of weeks, I've decided to give a few more of these books a try, in the hopes that I'll find one that fits within the guidelines I'm looking for. I've been on a quest the last few months, which I've already talked about a little bit on my blog. I'm on a quest to find a good young adult contemporary novel (other than the ones by Kasie West who is my all time fave), and it's not really going that well. I used to love this genre, but oh the recent releases have left me so disappointed, and remind me again why it is that I stopped reading so many secular titles. The content in so many of them is downright atrocious, and I miss the days when young adult books weren't just adult books disguised as being for teenagers. Can I just say that this review is honestly really hard to share with you all? For many many years, I listed young adult contemporary as my all time favorite genre. However, two things have really changed for me with this. First, I've become a lot pickier about the type of content I'm wanting to read, and honestly, this genre is pretty much packed with things I'd rather not be reading about. Secondly, this genre has really taken a turn for the worse in terms of content in the last few years. Even authors I really used to enjoy no longer seem to appeal to me, which is honestly kind of upsetting and not the trend I was hoping for in the YA publishing world.
