Hello Friends :)
Can you believe Christmas is officially less than six months away?
Of course as you guys know, one of my favorite parts of the Christmas season is new Hallmark movies, and I only wish we could finally get the Hallmark channel in Canada one day.
If you've been reading my blog for awhile, then you'd know that I particularly love when the Hallmark Channel adapts beloved books for their fabulous Christmas movie line up, and that I always try and share with you guys whenever I find out about new ones being adapted. And in fact, last year's post which you can find here is still the top viewed post on my blog.
I'm beyond ecstatic to say that Hallmark is planning an amazing lineup of 34 new holiday movies this year between their two channels, and of the first few that have been announced, there's already three being adapted from beloved holiday books!
One of the first announced was Christmas Joy, adapted from the bestselling novel by Nancy Naigle.
Book Synopsis From Goodreads:
Joy Holbrook might be all work and no play, but that changes when her Aunt Ruby takes a fall that lands her in a rehabilitation center before the holidays. Joy takes a leave of absence from her job as a market researcher to run the family farm, even though the timing may hinder her chance at garnering the promotion of her dreams.
Ben Andrews isn’t your average accountant. He also happens to be the handiest man in Crystal Falls. He’s helped his elderly neighbor, Ruby Johnson, decorate for the annual Christmas Home Tour—and win—the last several years. He’s not about to let some drop-in niece break their winning streak.
Ruby seems overly concerned about Joy being able to handle Molly. Under the impression she’s referring Molly the bunny that is one of the menagerie of animals, Joy’s not worried at all until the next morning when a little girl named Molly shows up. For the sake of her aunt, Joy is forced to partner with Ben while Ruby is on the mend to help with preparation for the Christmas tour and, in the process finds her career-focused heart dreaming of a family.
Will the magic of Christmas help her to open her heart and find her everlasting joy?
This holiday adaptation is set to star Danielle Panabaker and Matt Long, and sounds like a lovely must see movie for this year's lineup. I definitely think I'm going to have to read this book before the movie comes out as it sounds like it would be right up my alley. If you're interested in learning more about this movie, I'd highly recommend checking out its page on one of my favorite blogs ever, It's A Wonderful Movie.
And the other two book to movie adapations that have been announced so far we're both featured in an exclusive EW article, which you can find here.
First up is one of my all time favorite actresses, Candace Cameron Bure in her seventh Hallmark Christmas movie, A Shoe Addict's Christmas based on the best selling novel by Beth Harbison:
Book Synopsis From Goodreads:
"From the author of the beloved bestseller Shoe Addicts Anonymouscomes a heartwarming twist on a classic tale filled with holiday cheer.
Noelle is not a fan of the holidays and to make matters worse, she is at a crossroads in her life when it seems that love and adventure are no longer possible. When she stays late at her job in a department store on a snowy Christmas Eve she accidentally gets locked in after closing. She isn’t too concerned about the prospect of spending the night in the store…until a woman appears out of nowhere and tells Noelle that she’s her guardian angel. Soon Noelle finds herself camped out in the shoe department facing several “ghosts” of Christmases past, present, and future...Will visiting the holidays of yesterday and tomorrow help Noelle see the true spirit of Christmas? And will the love she has longed for all her life be the best surprise gift of all?"
This book was actually one that I had on my Christmas TBR list last year, and now hearing that Hallmark is adapting it with one of my favorite actresses definitely has me wanting to read it ASAP. So far, I'd have to say that this is the movie I'm most excited about from this year's line up.
And lastly, the lovely Lacey Chabert is also starring in her seventh Christmas movie for the Hallmark Channel, Pride and Prejudice and Mistletoe by best selling author Melissa De La Cruz:
Book Synopsis From Goodreads:
Pride and Prejudice and Mistletoe, from New York Times bestselling author, Melissa de la Cruz, is a sweet, sexy and hilarious gender-swapping, genre-satisfying re-telling, set in contemporary America and featuring one snooty Miss Darcy.
"Darcy Fitzwilliam is 29, beautiful, successful, and brilliant. She dates hedge funders and basketball stars and is never without her three cellphones—one for work, one for play, and one to throw at her assistant (just kidding). Darcy’s never fallen in love, never has time for anyone else’s drama, and never goes home for Christmas if she can help it. But when her mother falls ill, she comes home to Pemberley, Ohio, to spend the season with her family.
Her parents throw their annual Christmas bash, where she meets one Luke Bennet, the smart, sardonic slacker son of their neighbor. Luke is 32-years-old and has never left home. He’s a carpenter and makes beautiful furniture, and is content with his simple life. He comes from a family of five brothers, each one less ambitious than the other. When Darcy and Luke fall into bed after too many eggnogs, Darcy thinks it’s just another one night stand. But why can’t she stop thinking of Luke? What is it about him? And can she fall in love, or will her pride and his prejudice against big-city girls stand in their way?"
Now I have to admit I'm a little on the fence about this one. I can't wait to see Hallmark's adaptation of this, especially since I'm a big Jane Austen fan, and I also really enjoy Lacey Chabert's work. And let's face it, anything Pride and Prejudice inspired is right up my alley, and this one being a gender reversal definitely intrigues me. However, the fact that right from the synopsis, it's stated that this book involves a one night stand, I'm not sure if I'll personally be reading the book or not before I tune into the movie.
I hope you guys are also very excited for this year's holiday movie lineup, and here's to hoping there will be many more book to movie adaptations included once the full lineup is announced! And if there is, I'll of course be back to share it all with you guys.
Thanks so much for reading everyone! I'll see you next time here on The Preppy Book Princess. :)
