The Mother Daughter Book Club by Heather Vogel Frederick Review

Hello Friends :)

I hope you're all doing well, and I want to thank you all for joining me for another book review here on The Preppy Book Princess.

Has there been anything you've finally found the time to do during social distancing that you just didn't have the chance to get to before? For me, I've finally had the opportunity to reread some of my favorite books, which I hadn't had the chance to do so for at least a few years.

One of those favorites is The Mother Daughter Book Club series. I'd read these for the first time a few years back, and I'd always wanted to go back and reread them. And since I never reviewed any of the titles the first time I read them, I knew I wanted to review the first title for you all today.

The Mother Daughter Book Club by Heather Vogel Frederick:

Source: Christmas Gift

Publisher: Simon Schuster Books For Young Readers

Publication Date: April 24th, 2007

Genre: Middle Grade

Series: The Mother Daughter Book Club

Synopsis:

The book club

is about to get

a makeover....

Even if Megan would rather be at the mall, Cassidy is late for hockey practice, Emma's already read every book in existence, and Jess is missing her mother too much to care, the new book club is scheduled to meet every month.

But what begins as a mom-imposed ritual of reading Little Women soon helps four unlikely friends navigate the drama of middle school. From stolen journals, to secret crushes, to a fashion-fiasco first dance, the girls are up to their Wellie boots in drama. They can't help but wonder: What would Jo March do?

Acclaimed author Heather Vogel Frederick will delight daughters of all ages in a novel about the fabulousness of fiction, family, and friendship.

My Review:

I adored these books when I read them for the first time a few years back, and I'd always wanted to reread them. During all these crazy times of social distancing, I decided it was the perfect opportunity to revisit these beloved characters, and I honestly enjoyed this one just as much the second time around.

I love how each of the girls featured in The Mother Daughter Book Club brings her own unique personality to the mix. You have Emma who's the sweet bookworm, you have Megan who's the fashionista and a bit of a mean girl to start out with, you have Jess who's outdoorsy and super shy, and you have Cassidy who cares more about sports than she does everything else. I love how over the course of their sixth grade year, these girls come to discover what the true meaning of friendship is, and that you can find it in the unlikeliest of places. I love the strong relationships that are present with most of the girls' parents, as that's so often an unheard of concept in young adult and middle grade books these days.

Perhaps what I love most of all about this beautiful book though is the focus on Little Women. It remains to this day as my all time favorite book, and I loved getting to experience everyone's reactions to reading it in the book club. I also adored the extra info that's given about the Alcott family, especially since this particular book is set in Concord, where the Alcott family was from.

With a beautiful setting, writing that keeps the reader glued to the page, and characters that show real growth and development by the end of the story, The Mother Daughter Book Club remains one of my all time favorite middle grade reads. This one comes highly recommended from me, and I love that it stays mostly clean. There is a few instances of bullying and name calling (some that isn't really categorized as bullying i.e what they all say about Mrs. Chadwick behind her back), but other than that it truly is an adorable, coming of age story that will appeal to a lot of younger readers looking to start in on middle grade or young adult books.

Final Rating: 5/5.

Definitely go ahead and give this one a chance if you haven't already.

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day :)

Della and Darby by Susannah B. Lewis Review

Happy Monday Friends :) I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you decided to stop by my little corner of the internet. My husband and I actually have this week off of work for a much needed holiday, and I'm excited for the many fun things we have planned. Aside from the fun things, I'm honestly thankful to have some extra time to get my house back in shape, and to get more organized for Christmas. I also hope to have lots of time to curl up with some great reads, and I recently had a chance to read one of my most anticipated 2023 releases! Earlier in the year, I read my first novel by Susannah B. Lewis, and I couldn't have loved it more. It was definitely one of my favorite reads of this entire year, and I've been looking forward to reading her next release ever since. If you'd like to check out that review, you can do so using the link below: Bless Your Heart Rae Sutton Otherwise, keep on reading down below for today's full review. De...

First Line Friday: Courting Mr. Emerson

Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson. About The Book: When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. Making it her mission to get him to loosen up and embrace life, she embarks on what seems like a lost cause--and finds herself falling for him in the process. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...
