The Diva Spices It Up by Krista Davis Review

 Hello Friends :)

How has your reading been going lately?

I've been reading a ton of cozy mysteries lately, and have found myself flying through them pretty quickly. I miss the days when most cozy mysteries were clean and cozy, and not so full of objectionable content.

However, I have discovered over the last couple of years that two cozy mystery authors in particular are ones that I can count on to deliver well plotted mysteries that are still relatively clean and cozy. Those two authors are Julie Anne Lindsey (and her various pen names), and Krista Davis. Krista Davis has long been one of my favorites, but it had been quite awhile since I'd had the chance to read one of her books. I finally had the opportunity to do so recently, and I knew I couldn't wait to share with all of you what I ended up thinking about it.

The Diva Spices It Up by Krista Davis:

Source: Libby App

Publisher: Kensington

Publication Date: April 28th, 2020

Genre: Cozy Mystery

Series: Domestic Diva Mystery

Synopsis:

She's a young Martha Stewart...in Old Town Virginia!
New York Times bestselling author Krista Davis delights with the 13th in her enormously popular and completely charming Domestic Diva Mystery series. When a celebrity ghostwriter dies on the job, it's up to Sophie Winston, Old Town, Virginia's favorite entertaining expert and sporadic sleuth, to whip up an impromptu investigation...

Sophie never considered ghostwriting as a side gig, until former actress and aspiring lifestyle guru, Tilly Stratford, trophy wife of Wesley Winthrope, needs someone to write her celebrity cookbook. Sophie agrees, hoping she'll earn enough bread on this assignment to finish her bathroom renovations. But as it turns out, Sophie isn't the first foodie to get a taste for recipe ghostwriting, and if the marginalia are any indication, this project could be a killer...

Wesley claims professional ghostwriter, Abby Bergeron, suddenly abandoned Tilly's cookbook with no warning. But Sophie quickly discovers that Abby may be more ghost than writer now...and her disappearance was no accident. So Sophie cracks open a fresh investigation but sifting the seasoned murderer from this sampling of salty suspects won't be easy. Will Sophie savor another case closed or will the culprit simply melt away?

My Review:

It had been quite awhile since I'd last picked up a novel by Krista Davis, and I was excited to jump right back into Sophie's world, and find out what all my favorite inhabitants of Old Town, Alexandria have been up to. While I did end up thinking this one was a tad grislier than the earlier installments were, it was still an enjoyable mystery read that had me connected to the story throughout its entirety.

Sophie never seems to go looking for trouble, but it always seems to find her regardless. When she's asked by her ex-husband Mars to take over a project as a celebrity ghost writer for a neighbor's cookbook, she soon discovers that the previous ghost writer met a nefarious end. As her quest to figure out what truly happened to poor Abby Bergeron deepens, Sophie will find herself with too many unanswered questions, and even more suspects who all seem to be connected to the mystery in ways she can't understand.

With twists and turns around every corner, appearances from many of the series' beloved characters, and recipes and planning tips galore, the thirteen edition of the Domestic Diva series is a fun treat for cozy mystery fans everywhere, and reminded me once again why Krista Davis is one of my all time favorite authors within this genre.

Final Rating: 4/5.

I'm looking forward to reading book fourteen, and to trying out some of the many recipes included within this one!

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day :)

Della and Darby by Susannah B. Lewis Review

Happy Monday Friends :) I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you decided to stop by my little corner of the internet. My husband and I actually have this week off of work for a much needed holiday, and I'm excited for the many fun things we have planned. Aside from the fun things, I'm honestly thankful to have some extra time to get my house back in shape, and to get more organized for Christmas. I also hope to have lots of time to curl up with some great reads, and I recently had a chance to read one of my most anticipated 2023 releases! Earlier in the year, I read my first novel by Susannah B. Lewis, and I couldn't have loved it more. It was definitely one of my favorite reads of this entire year, and I've been looking forward to reading her next release ever since. If you'd like to check out that review, you can do so using the link below: Bless Your Heart Rae Sutton Otherwise, keep on reading down below for today's full review. De...

First Line Friday: Courting Mr. Emerson

Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson. About The Book: When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. Making it her mission to get him to loosen up and embrace life, she embarks on what seems like a lost cause--and finds herself falling for him in the process. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...

Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Characters I'd name a child/cat/dog/car/ etc After.

Happy Tuesday guys! I enjoyed Top Ten Tuesday so much last week, that I decided to go ahead and take part again this week. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and The Bookish, and here's the link to the main page if you're interested in becoming a part of it: http://www.brokeandbookish.com/p/top-ten-tuesday-other-features.html Today's topic is: Ten Characters I'd Name A Child/Cat/Dog/Car/ etc After, and I think it's going to be a really fun one. First, Characters I'd Name a Pet after: 1) Katsa from Kristin Cashore's Graceling: I have to start with Katsa, since it is actually what we named our adorable black and white kitten almost a year ago. She's grown so much since this picture, but this was taken right after we decided on her name. We tried several different book characters, but Katsa is the one she loved right away, and so is what we ended up going with. 2) Rose from Richelle Mead's Vampire Academ...
