Silk by E.B. Roshan Review

 Happy Wednesday Sweet Friends :)

I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you've taken the time to drop on by The Preppy Book Princess today for another book review.

I'm Kirby, and I'm so happy you're here!

I enjoy getting to read fiction as a way to destress from some of the stressors of everyday life, and I started my little ole blog back in September of 2015 to share about the many titles I devour with you all.

However, I think today's post might be a first for The Preppy Book Princess (if I'm not mistaken), and I think this is actually the first time I've ever posted a graphic novel review on my blog.

I hope you'll all keep reading down below to find out what I ended up thinking about it.

My Review:

I've read and enjoyed a couple of E.B. Roshan's titles in the past, but I was a little unsure when she reached out to me about this one. I don't have a lot of experience with graphic novels, and I wasn't sure I'd end up being the intended audience for it. However, my hesitations were quickly pushed away once I got into the story, and I ended up enjoying this quick, visual read a lot more than I initially thought I would.

For some reason I was expecting this to be more of an adult graphic novel, so it was a pleasant surprise that it's more of a middle grade/young adult read. The author's art style was both interesting and vivid, and helped the unique storyline get its point even further across.

The jungle setting was on point, and I especially enjoyed the emphasis on sibling relationships and familial history amidst changing industries, laws, and societal expectations. As someone who does not like spiders whatsoever, I was thankful that the "Silkis" were more cartoonish looking, and didn't appear creepy or freaky to the reader.

All in all, this was a fun read that I think a lot of families will enjoy getting to dive into, and I definitely wouldn't hesitate to pick up a graphic novel from this author in the future.

My only negative was that I thought the conclusion was a bit too quick, and I was hoping for a little more resolution in some of the circumstances. Still a lovely read though, and one I'd definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys clean, adventurous graphic novels.

Final Rating: 4/5.

Thanks so much to the author for providing me with a complimentary copy to read and review!

I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary copy of this novel from the author in exchange for an honest review. I was not required to give a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own, and this is my honest review.

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day :)

Della and Darby by Susannah B. Lewis Review

Happy Monday Friends :) I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you decided to stop by my little corner of the internet. My husband and I actually have this week off of work for a much needed holiday, and I'm excited for the many fun things we have planned. Aside from the fun things, I'm honestly thankful to have some extra time to get my house back in shape, and to get more organized for Christmas. I also hope to have lots of time to curl up with some great reads, and I recently had a chance to read one of my most anticipated 2023 releases! Earlier in the year, I read my first novel by Susannah B. Lewis, and I couldn't have loved it more. It was definitely one of my favorite reads of this entire year, and I've been looking forward to reading her next release ever since. If you'd like to check out that review, you can do so using the link below: Bless Your Heart Rae Sutton Otherwise, keep on reading down below for today's full review. De...

First Line Friday: All's Fair in Love and Cupcakes

Happy Friday Everyone :) I hope you've all had a great week, and that you're looking forward to the weekend. Today I'm excited to once again be linking up with Hoarding Books for First Line Friday. First Line Friday is one of my favorite weekly memes, and it simply consists of sharing the first line of the book you're currently reading. I've had a lot of extra reading time on my hands lately because of all the social distancing, and as such, I've been able to read a lot of the titles that have been sitting on my shelves for quite some time. Today's book is one of such titles, and I'm happy that I finally found the time to get to it as I'm really enjoying it so far. All's Fair in Love and Cupcakes by Betsy St. Amant: About the Book: Kat inspected rows of the same old cupcakes. They seemed to blink back at her, as if they knew she was capable of so much more. Kat Varland has had enough of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. At twenty-six years old...
