Bookish Resolutions: Halfway Check In

Hey guys,

I hope all my fellow readers had a lovely weekend, and enjoyed celebrating the day that recognizes all the amazing fathers out there!

I spent yesterday morning baking cinnamon roll bread to give as a gift to both my father, and my stepfather, both of who enjoyed it immensely. I then spent the afternoon having a visit with my father, and the evening at a BBQ that my mother threw for my stepfather. I always feel so blessed to live in the same community as most of my family, and really appreciated the time we all got to spend together yesterday. The only damper on the whole day was that Neil was working, and wasn't able to come with me to visit anyone, but oh well, sometimes those things happen, and we went ahead and made the best of it.

Also, I have to say that I can't wait to see June finally come to an end. June is always my least favorite month of the entire year, as there's several huge events that happen in our city this month, and that always makes work ridiculously busy. Of course, we always have the issue of people either calling in sick, or not showing up, to attend these events, and that always makes it that much more frustrating. It's going to be a long ten or say days until this will all be behind us, but I can tell you right now that I'm anxiously awaiting July to finally be here!

And speaking of it being almost the end of June, I thought the perfect post for today would be to do a check in on how my bookish resolutions for 2016 are coming along, since we're almost at the halfway point of 2016 which is crazy!

If you didn't see my original Bookish Resolutions post, you can find it here:

1) My first reading goal for 2016 was that I set my goodreads reading challenge at 350 books. Unfortunately, this one I'm a little bit behind on, but at the same time that is okay with me. This is the first year in the last couple of years that I haven't been as bothered with my asthma, as I was when I was first diagnosed, and going through the whole ordeal of the doctors trying out different meds to see which one would help my specific case. As such, I haven't had to miss nearly as much work this year, as I have the last couple of years, and so, while I may not have read as many books this year, I'm also grateful for that fact because it means I've been able to work more hours than in the previous years.

2) My second goal was to read more classics. Unfortunately, this goal is also one that I really haven't done too much with, but I really hope to change that fact soon. I'm still really wanting to read Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights, and I hope to get to both of these classic novels soon.

3) My third reading goal was to read books by at least five authors I'd never read before, and I'm happy to say that I completed this goal quite awhile ago.  I've discovered a lot of amazing new to me authors this year, a few of which who are:

Becky Wade, Lis Wiehl, Samantha Chase, Renee Collins, Emery Lord, Julie Murphy, Ann Aguirre, Mary E Pearson, and Susane Colasanti; just to name a few. There were many more authors I could have included here, and I loved that I pushed myself to discover new authors this year honestly.

4) My fourth goal was to read more inspirational fiction this year, as it is a genre I always love, but tend to find myself pushing aside in order to read more YA or contemporary fiction. Once again, I'm happy to say that I have done really good with this particular goal, and have discovered many amazing inspirational authors along the way. This year I've had the pleasure of enjoying inspirational books by:

Dani Pettrey, Becky Wade, Lis Wiehl, Lois Gladys Leppard, Melody Carlson, Colleen Coble, Delia Parr, Katherine Spencer, and Alexandra Lanc, just to name a few.

I still have many more inspirational books in my TBR pile that I hope to get to before the end of the year.

5) Lastly, my fifth and final "reading" goal was that I wanted to work on reviewing more of the books that I read, and also, work on getting my blog on a regular updating schedule. I am so proud to say that I have done really well towards accomplishing both of these goals, and I feel my blog has come a long way in 2016! I'm so grateful to be a part of the book blogging community, and I hope to continue to be able to do so in the future. :)

So that basically sums up my halfway check in of bookish resolutions. Thanks for reading guys, and I'll see you all on Wednesday for Top 5 Wednesday.

Della and Darby by Susannah B. Lewis Review

Happy Monday Friends :) I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you decided to stop by my little corner of the internet. My husband and I actually have this week off of work for a much needed holiday, and I'm excited for the many fun things we have planned. Aside from the fun things, I'm honestly thankful to have some extra time to get my house back in shape, and to get more organized for Christmas. I also hope to have lots of time to curl up with some great reads, and I recently had a chance to read one of my most anticipated 2023 releases! Earlier in the year, I read my first novel by Susannah B. Lewis, and I couldn't have loved it more. It was definitely one of my favorite reads of this entire year, and I've been looking forward to reading her next release ever since. If you'd like to check out that review, you can do so using the link below: Bless Your Heart Rae Sutton Otherwise, keep on reading down below for today's full review. De...

First Line Friday: Courting Mr. Emerson

Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson. About The Book: When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. Making it her mission to get him to loosen up and embrace life, she embarks on what seems like a lost cause--and finds herself falling for him in the process. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...

First Line Friday: The Joy of Falling

Happy Friday Everyone :) I hope you've all had a great week, and that you've had time to curl up with some great books. This week, Lindsay Harrel's newest book released, and I loved it when I had the chance to read and review it. I'm excited to feature it for this week's First Line Friday post which is hosted by the lovely ladies over at Hoarding Books. Both women are trying to navigate their way through the grief, but neither one is making much progress. Angela is barely making ends meet, angry at her husband for leaving her to raise three children on her own. Meanwhile, Eva is stuck, unable to move forward after losing the love of her life and her source of inspiration. But then Eva gets a life-changing phone call. Befor...
