Cross Shadow by Andrew Huff Review

 Hello Friends :)

It's been awhile. Unfortunately, I've been going through a really tough time, and I've never personally been through a spiritual warfare battle like this in my life. I don't have a lot of energy right now, so my blog hasn't been able to maintain my usual three posts a week for awhile now. Lord willing, I'd love to get it back to it eventually, but in the meantime, I'd really appreciate any prayers for strength and encouragement you could send my way.

Today I'd like to share a new book review with you all.

Cross Shadow by Andrew Huff:

Source: Complimentary Copy Provided by the Publisher

Publisher: Kregel Publications

Publication Date: May 26th, 2020

Genre: Christian Fiction/Suspense

Series: Shepherd Suspense

Synopsis:

All journalist Christine Lewis wants is the truth. All pastor John Cross wants is to avoid it.

Former CIA agent turned evangelical pastor John Cross is busy caring for the small community of believers he ministers to in Virginia. Journalist Christine Lewis is busy with the demand for her talents from top news agencies in New York City. Neither have any time left for their relationship, which began eight months before when they paired up to prevent the detonation of a chemical bomb in the nation’s capital.

But when Christine hears that her stepbrother has been arrested for murder in Texas, they team up again to discover the truth about the crime. Untangling a web of conspiracy, the couple finds themselves in the center of another dangerous situation—and in trouble far deeper than they expected.

With an assassin on the loose, a trusted colleague acting as a double agent, and unreliable artificial intelligence connected to mercenaries who have Cross on their hit list, these two may not get out of the Lone Star State alive.

My Review:

Cross Shadow, the second title in Andrew Huff's Shepherd Suspense series, had me glued to the page right from the start and I was barely able to put it down. John and Christine were two characters I'd really enjoyed reading about in the first book, and I loved where their story goes in this follow up. Probably one of my favorite things about reading any of Andrew's books is how realistic the entire story seems to the reader. We may be reading about terrorism, espionage, conspiracies, advanced robotics, ect, but it never seems unbelievable or too far fetched to make sense.

This was a book that I'd highly been anticipating reading, and I'm happy to say that it definitely did not disappoint. I actually ended up enjoying the mystery in this one even more than I did in the first book, and I really enjoyed getting to learn more about Christine's background and John's struggles with his place in the world. I also applaud the author for making the faith element such an important part of the story, as that hasn't been my finding with a lot of recently published Christian fiction titles.

The story is fast paced, action packed, clean and finishes off with a bang. I did not see the ending coming, and I love when an author can truly surprise me with how everything comes together in the end.

Final Rating: 4/5.

I definitely recommend picking this one up if you're a fan of Christian suspense novels.

Thanks so much to Kregel Publications for providing me a complimentary copy to read and review!

I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary copy of this novel from the publisher (Kregel Publications) in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I was not required to give a positive review.

Della and Darby by Susannah B. Lewis Review

Happy Monday Friends :) I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you decided to stop by my little corner of the internet. My husband and I actually have this week off of work for a much needed holiday, and I'm excited for the many fun things we have planned. Aside from the fun things, I'm honestly thankful to have some extra time to get my house back in shape, and to get more organized for Christmas. I also hope to have lots of time to curl up with some great reads, and I recently had a chance to read one of my most anticipated 2023 releases! Earlier in the year, I read my first novel by Susannah B. Lewis, and I couldn't have loved it more. It was definitely one of my favorite reads of this entire year, and I've been looking forward to reading her next release ever since. If you'd like to check out that review, you can do so using the link below: Bless Your Heart Rae Sutton Otherwise, keep on reading down below for today's full review. De...

First Line Friday: Courting Mr. Emerson

Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson. About The Book: When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. Making it her mission to get him to loosen up and embrace life, she embarks on what seems like a lost cause--and finds herself falling for him in the process. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...

Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Characters I'd name a child/cat/dog/car/ etc After.

Happy Tuesday guys! I enjoyed Top Ten Tuesday so much last week, that I decided to go ahead and take part again this week. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and The Bookish, and here's the link to the main page if you're interested in becoming a part of it: http://www.brokeandbookish.com/p/top-ten-tuesday-other-features.html Today's topic is: Ten Characters I'd Name A Child/Cat/Dog/Car/ etc After, and I think it's going to be a really fun one. First, Characters I'd Name a Pet after: 1) Katsa from Kristin Cashore's Graceling: I have to start with Katsa, since it is actually what we named our adorable black and white kitten almost a year ago. She's grown so much since this picture, but this was taken right after we decided on her name. We tried several different book characters, but Katsa is the one she loved right away, and so is what we ended up going with. 2) Rose from Richelle Mead's Vampire Academ...
