Wooing Cadie McCaffrey by Bethany Turner Review

 Good Morning Bookish Friends :)

I pray today finds you all well, and I want to thank you for joining me for another book review here on The Preppy Book Princess.

What have you guys been reading lately? I've been reading mostly Christian fiction and a few young adult titles, and have definitely found some amazing new reads in the process.

For today's book review, I'm here to share my thoughts about a Bethany Turner  novel with you all. I absolutely adored The Secret Life of Sarah Hollenbeck (review here), I enjoyed Hadley Beckett's Next Dish (review here), didn't really have any interest in Plot Twist, and thought The Do Over was an okay read.

Keep reading to see what I ended up thinking about Wooing Cadie McCaffrey.

Wooing Cadie McCaffrey by Bethany Turner:

Source: Bought for Myself

Publisher: Revell

Publication Date: May 21st, 2019

Genre: Christian Fiction/Contemporary

Synopsis:

After four years with her boyfriend, Cadie McCaffrey is thinking of ending things. Convinced Will doesn't love her in the "forever" way she loves him, Cadie believes it's time for her to let him go before life passes her by. When a misunderstanding leads to a mistake, leaving her hurt, disappointed, and full of regret, she finally sends him packing.

But for Will, the end of their relationship is only the beginning of his quest to figure out how to be the man Cadie wanted him to be. With the dubious guidance of his former pro-athlete work friends and tactics drawn from Cadie's favorite romantic comedies, Will attempts to win her back. It's a foolproof plan. What could possibly go wrong?

Bethany Turner is back with more of the heart and humor readers love. Anyone who enjoys a good romance or binges romantic comedies on Netflix will devour this delightful story.

My Review:

I adored The Secret Life of Sarah Hollenbeck, and I always wanted to find the time to read Bethany Turner's follow up novel, Wooing Cadie McCaffrey. Unfortunately, it ended up being nothing like what I was expecting, and it honestly left me both disappointed and disheartened. It's another example of the current trend in Christian publishing towards secular content that I'm not personally a fan of, and it won't be one I'll be recommending.

While I absolutely adored the premise of this one, the entire thing fell flat for me. I've rarely read a "Christian" novel that the faith element played such a superficial role, and I honestly think this book would have been better if it had just been left out entirely. Cadie and Will make a big mistake together, and yet, true repentance is never shown on either of their behalf's. Instead, each makes a completely ingenuine plea that more comes across as feeling like they're being punished for their mistake and not like either of them truly regrets going against what God has said.

Further more, Cadie's parents are both shallow, superficial and honestly entitled and spoiled, and both provide horrible examples of what Christianity should be. Cadie's mother is a successful Christian women's speaker who seems to care more about her appearance and status than actually about providing a true ministry for anyone, and honestly, she's basically a snob for the majority of the story. Cadie's dad is supposed to be a great example of faith, and yet more time in the story is given to his penance for finer things (like 150 dollar caviar) than on the work he's supposedly doing for the Lord.

And for the majority of the story, I couldn't help thinking that most of the problems would never have occurred in the first place if Cadie and Will could have simply had a true heart to heart conversation about everything they were feeling. So much of the over the top drama was all due to miscommunication, and it was extremely frustrating to keep reading about.

Lastly, I have to be honest and state that I really couldn't sympathize with Cadie's character for the majority of the story as she comes across as a spoiled, selfish entitled brat for quite a bit of it.

I wasn't really enjoying this one after the first couple of chapters, but I kept forcing myself to keep going thinking it would get better. It really didn't, and I should have just saved myself the time and dnfed this one.

Final Rating: 2/5.

This will be one I will not personally be recommending or rereading in the future.

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day :)

Happy Monday Friends :) I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you decided to stop by my little corner of the internet. My husband and I actually have this week off of work for a much needed holiday, and I'm excited for the many fun things we have planned. I also hope to have lots of time to curl up with some great reads, and I recently had a chance to read one of my most anticipated 2023 releases! Earlier in the year, I read my first novel by Susannah B. Lewis, and I couldn't have loved it more. It was definitely one of my favorite reads of this entire year, and I've been looking forward to reading her next release ever since. Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson. About The Book: When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...
