The Sweet Life by Suzanne Woods Fisher Review

 Happy Monday Friends :)

I pray you all had a great weekend, and that you're all doing well, and I'm thankful you chose to stop by The Preppy Book Princess today.

I'm Kirby, and I'm looking forward to sharing a fun review with you all today.

This particular title had been one that I was really anticipating, and I was excited to get to be a part of the Revell Reads Blog Tour for it.

I hope you'll all keep reading down below for my full review, and I also hope you'll all take the chance to check this one out for yourself.

The Sweet Life by Suzanne Woods Fisher:

Source: Publisher as Part of the Revell Reads Blog Tour Program

Publisher: Revell

Publication Date: May 3rd, 2022

Genre: Christian Fiction/Contemporary/Chick Lit

Series: Cape Cod Creamery

Synopsis:

Dawn Dixon can hardly believe she's on a groomless honeymoon on beautiful Cape Cod . . . with her mother. Sure, Marnie Dixon is good company, but Dawn was supposed to be here with Kevin, the love of her life (or so she thought).

Marnie Dixon needs some time away from the absolute realness of life as much as her jilted daughter does, and she's not about to let her only child suffer alone--even if Marnie herself had been doing precisely that for the past month.

Given the circumstances, maybe it was inevitable that Marnie would do something as rash as buy a run-down ice-cream shop in the town's tightly regulated historic district. After all, everything's better with ice cream.

Her exasperated daughter knows that she's the one who will have to clean up this mess. Even when her mother's impulsive real estate purchase brings Kevin back into her life, Dawn doesn't get her hopes up. Everyone knows that broken romances stay broken . . . don't they?

Welcome to a summer of sweet surprises on Cape Cod--a place where dreams just might come true.

My Review:

Suzanne Woods Fisher has become one of my all time favorites over the last few years, and I eagerly anticipated getting to read the start to her brand new series. I couldn't wait to dive into this sweet story after seeing the beautiful cover, and reading the synopsis that had me instantly intrigued. I'm happy to say after finishing it, that it was a heartfelt and sweet romance that I definitely enjoyed, and I'm excited to get to read more about these characters in books to come.

One of my favorite things about picking up a story by this author is that usually the romance almost plays a back seat to everything else going on. While the romance in this one is sweet and heartwarming, it definitely isn't the main focal point of the story. Instead, we're primarily treated to the story of Dawn, a play by the rule, rigid CPA who's just had her heart trampled on, and her mother, Marnie, who likes to play everything by ear, and thinks that joy is often found in not knowing where life is going from one moment to the next. When Marnie impulsively buys a run down ice cream parlor on Cape Cod, Dawn is pretty much fit to be tied. However, as the two of them dive into the enormous project of making the shop a success, they are also able to examine their relationship in a new light, and deal with the grief from losing Marnie's husband and Dawn's father so suddenly.

The setting was beautiful and fit the plot points perfectly, and I could definitely tell of the author's love for this particular area due to the rich and vivid imagery she used to describe it. It took me awhile to warm up to both Dawn and Marnie as characters, but as more of their arc was revealed, I really grew to care about them both, and was rooting for them to succeed in the end. The secondary cast of characters were definitely a hoot, and added another dimension to the story, and I also personally found the historical bits about about the renovations to the building to be really interesting to follow along with.

All in all, I highly enjoyed this one, and really took my time lingering over each and every chapter as it truly was a beautiful story. I also have to mention how much I loved the brief mentions of Paul and Maeve from the Three Sisters Island series, as that was a fun extra tidbit I wasn't expecting.

Final Rating: 4/5.

I highly recommend this heartwarming contemporary about family, faith, and taking second chances.

Thanks so much to Revell for allowing me to read and review this one!

I received a complimentary copy of this novel from the publisher (Revell) as part of the Revell Reads Blog Tour Program in exchange for an honest review. I was not required to give a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day :)

Della and Darby by Susannah B. Lewis Review

Happy Monday Friends :) I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you decided to stop by my little corner of the internet. My husband and I actually have this week off of work for a much needed holiday, and I'm excited for the many fun things we have planned. Aside from the fun things, I'm honestly thankful to have some extra time to get my house back in shape, and to get more organized for Christmas. I also hope to have lots of time to curl up with some great reads, and I recently had a chance to read one of my most anticipated 2023 releases! Earlier in the year, I read my first novel by Susannah B. Lewis, and I couldn't have loved it more. It was definitely one of my favorite reads of this entire year, and I've been looking forward to reading her next release ever since. First Line Friday: Courting Mr. Emerson

Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson. About The Book: When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. Making it her mission to get him to loosen up and embrace life, she embarks on what seems like a lost cause--and finds herself falling for him in the process. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...

Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Characters I'd name a child/cat/dog/car/ etc After.

Happy Tuesday guys! I enjoyed Top Ten Tuesday so much last week, that I decided to go ahead and take part again this week. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and The Bookish, and here's the link to the main page if you're interested in becoming a part of it: http://www.brokeandbookish.com/p/top-ten-tuesday-other-features.html Today's topic is: Ten Characters I'd Name A Child/Cat/Dog/Car/ etc After, and I think it's going to be a really fun one. First, Characters I'd Name a Pet after: 1) Katsa from Kristin Cashore's Graceling: I have to start with Katsa, since it is actually what we named our adorable black and white kitten almost a year ago. She's grown so much since this picture, but this was taken right after we decided on her name. We tried several different book characters, but Katsa is the one she loved right away, and so is what we ended up going with. 2) Rose from Richelle Mead's Vampire Academ...
