At Bluebonnet Lake by Amanda Cabot Review

 Hello Everyone :)

I pray today finds you all doing well, and I want to thank you all for joining me for another book review here on The Preppy Book Princess.

In the last couple of years, I've really come to love and appreciate Amanda Cabot's writing. I love how her books are faith based, I love how her books keep me glued to the page, and I love how her characters come to feel like old friends by the end of her beautiful stories.

However, I'd only ever read her historical fiction novels, and had never gotten around to trying her contemporary series.

I decided that definitely needed to change, and today I'm hear to share with you all what I ended up thinking about the first title in her contemporary series.

Keep reading below for my full review.

At Bluebonnet Lake by Amanda Cabot:

Synopsis:

Her life is set to warp speed. His is slowing to a crawl. But love has its own timing.

Marketing maven Kate Sherwood's world is fast-paced, challenging, and always changing. The last thing she wants to do is grind to a halt at Rainbow's End, a dilapidated resort in the Texas Hill Country. Still, she cannot deny her ailing grandmother's request to visit the place where she and her deceased husband spent one glorious week fifty years ago. There, Kate meets Greg, who appears to be the resort's unassuming handyman. But there's more to Greg than meets the eye--billions more, in fact.

Kate isn't looking for romance, but she can't deny the sparks of attraction that fly every time she and Greg are together. Could there be a future there? Or will Kate's long-sought promotion take her back to the big city?

The last thing Kate Sherwood needs is a man, so why is she so drawn to the handsome handyman at the Rainbow's End resort?

Amanda Cabot invites you to step into a place away from the pressures of the day. You might be surprised by what you find at Rainbow's End.

My Review:

I've really enjoyed several of Amanda Cabot's historical fiction novels, and I was  looking forward to giving her contemporary titles a try. I loved the premise of this one and the setting, and I couldn't wait to dive right in.

I will say that I enjoyed how this one is a slower paced writing style, and the romance was definitely not rushed. I also appreciated the fact that the romance kind of takes a backseat for quite a bit of the story to Kate and Greg working out the personal issues in their lives that are hindering them both from moving forward. It felt like a more mature stance, and showed the amount of character growth that both go through over the course of the story.

However, I did struggle for quite awhile to connect with this one, and it was mainly because I couldn't bring myself to sympathize with Kate's character. I've never been a fan of protagonists that make their career more important than anything else in their lives, and for me personally, it seemed to take her way too long to get the message in this one.

I did really enjoy Greg, but my favorite characters actually ended up being Sally and Roy, and the various townspeople that make up the secondary characters.

I'm still looking forward to continuing on with the rest of the series, I'm just hoping the next one will have a slightly more likeable female protagonist.

Final Rating: 3/5.

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day :)

My husband and I actually have this week off of work for a much needed holiday, and I'm excited for the many fun things we have planned. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often.
