Sadie: An Amish Retelling of Snow White by Sarah Price Review

 Hello Friends :)

I pray today finds you all doing well, and I want to thank you all for joining me for another book review here on The Preppy Book Princess.

I've been reading Amish fiction ever since I was a preteen many years ago, and I've read and loved so many amazing titles over the years.

However, because I have read so many of them, sometimes it's hard to find a story within this genre that truly seems original.

When I discovered Sarah Price's books about three years ago, I was instantly intrigued.

I love how she tackles some different ideas, like retellings, within the Amish fiction genre, and I've grown to adore her beautiful stories.

Today I can't wait to share my review with you all of the last title in her Amish Fairytale series.

Keep reading below for today's full review.

Sadie: An Amish Retelling of Snow White by Sarah Price:

Source: Library

Publisher: Zebra

Publication Date: September 25th, 2018

Genre: Christian Fiction/Amish Fiction/Retelling

Series: An Amish Fairytale

Synopsis:

Sarah Price delivers a delightful retelling of a beloved classic, featuring a young Amish woman who turns to faith as her guide even in the darkest times . . .

Sadie Whitaker is determined to be a good daughter, but her stepmother, Rachel, has made no secret of her overwhelming jealousy--or her desire to get Sadie out of her life. Rachel's latest plot involves marrying Sadie off to a widower in need of a mother for his unruly children--and she has convinced Sadie's beloved father to agree.

Left with no choice, Sadie flees her small Amish hometown of Echo Creek. Planning to hide in a nearby forest, she stumbles across a house that belongs to the seven Glick brothers. All outcasts from the Old Order community of Echo Creek, they generously agree to let her stay--and for the first time in ages, Sadie feels safe and needed, keeping house for them as any good Amish woman would do. Until, that is, the Glicks' handsome cousin comes to visit. For though he awakens her heart's desire, she can't risk revealing her true identity, until love and faith give her the courage to take a chance on happiness . . .

My Review:

I love how original Sarah Price's stories are within the Amish fiction genre, and I've really grown to love picking up her books in the last little while. I had really enjoyed the previous two titles in her fairytale retelling series, and I was intrigued at how she was going to rework the classic Snow White tale to fit within an Amish title.

I will say that this one ended up being my personal least favorite of the series, but it was definitely still an enjoyable read that I did really end up liking.

I thought the way that the poisoned apple and the seven dwarves were represented into this one was unique, and not what I was expecting. I really enjoyed the romance, and I like the interconnectedness between this one and the previous two titles, as it's interesting to see the same events happening but from a different person's POV.

However, I did think the evil stepmother was really overdone, and it seemed a tad out of place for how the Amish culture is usually represented. I also personally wasn't happy with the conclusion with her character, and I wish there'd been a bit more to it. I also was a little disappointed with the fact that most of the true Snow White elements in the story don't came into play until much later in the story as it felt like a bit of a missed opportunity.

Overall though, a cute ending to the series, and one I would still wholeheartedly recommend.

Final Rating: 4/5.

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day :)
