A Time to Bloom by Lauraine Snelling with Kiersti Giron Review

 Hello Everyone :)

I pray today finds you all doing well, and I want to thank you all for joining me for another book review here on The Preppy Book Princess.

I'm exited today to get to share a review for a title from a new to me author, and I hope you'll all keep reading down below to find out what I ended up thinking about it.

A Time to Bloom by Lauraine Snelling with Kiersti Giron:

Source: Library

Publisher: Bethany House

Publication Date: June 7th, 2022

Genre: Christian Fiction/Historical Fiction

Series: Leah's Garden

Synopsis:

Will their dreams fall apart when confronted with all that is stacked against them?

Delphinium Nielsen and her sisters have accomplished much in the past year, traveling west and settling in Nebraska. They are on their way to building a garden in dedication to their mother and working against the forces of nature to make their farm thrive. However, none of that can mask their concern that they are quickly running out of money. Del's work teaching in their booming town offers hope, not only to support her sisters financially, but also to better her students' lives. Not all of the town sees it that way, though, with the rebuilding of the schoolhouse continually neglected and her brightest student's father demanding he work the farm instead of attend class.

When their brother Anders arrives with his war-wounded and heartbroken friend RJ, Anders sees the strength of the sisters' idea to start a boardinghouse and decides to invest in it. Del finds RJ barely polite and wants nothing to do with him. But despite Del and her sisters' best-laid plans, the future--and RJ--might surprise them all.

My Review:

A Time to Bloom was actually my first experience with a Lauraine Snelling novel, and I wasn't sure if I was going to end up feeling like I missed out on anything since I hadn't read the first book before picking this one up. Although a few bits and pieces were mentioned throughout from the first book, I didn't feel like I missed out on too much which was appreciated, and I found myself caught up in this wonderful story about four sisters who are trying to make a new homestead a success in Nebraska in 1886.

This story definitely isn't for the faint of heart, and I loved how it touches on many issues that are still far too prevalent in our society today. The reader is given a close hand look at domestic abuse, war injuries, child abuse, and the negative effects of liquor and gambling. In a time when women's opinions weren't considered to matter, it was refreshing and wonderful to see this group band together to try and be a light for hope and change against the dark evils they're witnessing around them.

With a focus on grief, family, friendships, and the faith that sustains throughout all such things, A Time to Bloom was a wonderful story that has me eagerly anticipating getting to read the next book in the series.

I wholeheartedly enjoyed this lovely historical Christian fiction title, and I loved how the beautiful romance wasn't the main focus of the story, and instead was just one lovely aspect of a novel that transcended many important issues and showcased the beautiful bond between a sibling group.

Final Rating: 4/5.

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day :)

Della and Darby by Susannah B. Lewis Review

Happy Monday Friends :) I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you decided to stop by my little corner of the internet. My husband and I actually have this week off of work for a much needed holiday, and I'm excited for the many fun things we have planned. Aside from the fun things, I'm honestly thankful to have some extra time to get my house back in shape, and to get more organized for Christmas. I also hope to have lots of time to curl up with some great reads, and I recently had a chance to read one of my most anticipated 2023 releases! Earlier in the year, I read my first novel by Susannah B. Lewis, and I couldn't have loved it more. It was definitely one of my favorite reads of this entire year, and I've been looking forward to reading her next release ever since. If you'd like to check out that review, you can do so using the link below: Bless Your Heart Rae Sutton Otherwise, keep on reading down below for today's full review. De...

First Line Friday: Courting Mr. Emerson

Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson. About The Book: When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. Making it her mission to get him to loosen up and embrace life, she embarks on what seems like a lost cause--and finds herself falling for him in the process. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...

Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Characters I'd name a child/cat/dog/car/ etc After.

Happy Tuesday guys! I enjoyed Top Ten Tuesday so much last week, that I decided to go ahead and take part again this week. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and The Bookish, and here's the link to the main page if you're interested in becoming a part of it: http://www.brokeandbookish.com/p/top-ten-tuesday-other-features.html Today's topic is: Ten Characters I'd Name A Child/Cat/Dog/Car/ etc After, and I think it's going to be a really fun one. First, Characters I'd Name a Pet after: 1) Katsa from Kristin Cashore's Graceling: I have to start with Katsa, since it is actually what we named our adorable black and white kitten almost a year ago. She's grown so much since this picture, but this was taken right after we decided on her name. We tried several different book characters, but Katsa is the one she loved right away, and so is what we ended up going with. 2) Rose from Richelle Mead's Vampire Academ...
