Checking Out Crime by Laurie Cass Review

 Good Morning Bookish Friends :)

I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you chose to stop on by The Preppy Book Princess today for another book review.

I'm Kirby, and I'm so excited to welcome you today to my little corner of the internet.

If you've been here before, then welcome back! If this is your first time visiting, I'm so happy to meet you, and I'd love it if you'd drop me a comment below telling me a bit about yourself or about your favorite books. I love to read across a wide variety of genres with my favorites being Christian Fiction, Young Adult, Mysteries, Middle Grade, the classics, Historical Fiction, and Cozy Mysteries, just to name a few.

It's actually a cozy mystery that I want to share all about with you today, and this is from both a new to me series, and a new to me author.

I hope you'll all stick around down below where I'll be sharing my full review.

Checking Out Crime by Laurie Crass:

Librarian Minnie Hamilton and her clever cat Eddie solve a purr-fect murder, in the newest installment of the delightful Bookmobile Cat Mystery series.

Minnie and her rescue cat Eddie can often be found out and about in their bookmobile near Chilson, Michigan, delivering great reads to grateful patrons all over the county. But they always brake for trouble, and when Minnie sees a car speeding away down the road, and soon comes upon a dead bicyclist, she assumes she just missed seeing a hit-and-run.

Minnie is determined to discover who was behind the wheel, but it soon turns out that things are far more complicated than they seem and there's more to this case than meets the eye. Luckily, this librarian is ready to read the killer his rights.

My Review:

I hadn't read any of the previous titles in Laurie Cass' Bookmobile Cat Mystery series before choosing to pick this one up, but I stumbled upon when I was looking for a fall themed cozy mystery and decided to give it a go. As a huge cat person, I adored how this entire series is set around the main character Minnie's cat Eddie, and the hilarious personality he brings to the table. Definitely a cute tagline to a cozy mystery series, and it helped peak my interest in wanting to read this one.

I will say that I enjoyed the setting, the set up to the mystery, Eddie of course, and the fact that I didn't feel like I was missing out on anything by not having read the rest of the series. However, the mystery itself kind of fell short for me which was a tad disappointing. The investigation part of the story dragged heavily, and I had actually pieced together who was responsible quite early on in the story, although I couldn't really make sense of the why. Unfortunately, the final reveal seemed to come out of nowhere, and I still couldn't make sense of the why by the time I'd finished the story. I also personally don't enjoy stories as much where so many characters are introduced that it's hard to keep them all straight, and unfortunately that was the case with this one.

It still a cute read, and it's definitely an actual "cozy" which hasn't been my experience with a few of these type of reads lately so I appreciated that, but I wouldn't say it's a new favorite, and I don't think I'd rush out to read another of these titles in the near future.

Final Rating: 3/5.

I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys cozy mysteries that have a cat as part of the plot and/or anyone looking for a non grisly cozy mystery.

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day :)

First Line Friday: Courting Mr. Emerson

Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson. About The Book: When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. Making it her mission to get him to loosen up and embrace life, she embarks on what seems like a lost cause--and finds herself falling for him in the process. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...

First Line Friday: The Inheritance

Happy Friday Everyone :) I hope you're all had a great week and that you're staying safe no matter where you are. I haven't been leaving my house much lately other than for work, and because of this, I've had lots of reading time on my hands. Last year my hubby and I took a road trip that included a visit to our favorite bookstore, and we decided to each pick a book that wouldn't be our first choice. The purpose was to try and read something that still interested us, but would maybe be a bit different than what we would typically go for first. My pick ended up being The Inheritance by Michael Phillips, a book I actually ended up being quite excited about, despite never having heard of it prior. Unfortunately, it ended up sitting on my bookshelf ever since, and I'm so thankful I finally got the opportunity to pick it up and start reading it this past week. The Inheritance by Michael Phillips: About the Book: The death of the clan patriarch h...
