Kirby's Favorite Authors: Debbie Macomber

Hey guys!

As we come to the end of August, I thought it would be kind of fun to start a new series of posts on my blog, and today I'm going to go ahead and do so.

This series is simply going to be called: Kirby's Favorite Authors, and I will simply feature one of my favorite authors each post, and recommend some of my favorite books by them to all of you guys.

Before I go ahead and jump into this though, I wanted to announce that I've finally emerged from the social media dark ages and got Instagram. I love connecting with other bookish people, and I completely love seeing the imaginative ways fellow booklovers are able to capture their favorite books in pictures.

If you're interested in following me on Instagram, it's the same as my twitter @preppybookqueen, and I'd love the opportunity to get to follow you back!

With that out of the way, let's launch this brand new series with a look at my favorite books by Debbie Macomber!

To anyone who doesn't already know, I tend to read mainly YA, NA, and Inspirational Fiction, but there still are many adult fiction authors that I continue to read and love, and of those, my absolute favorite is Debbie Macomber!

I happened to stumble upon her books at my local library one December, as I was looking for some good Christmassy themed books, and hers were highly recommended. Ever since then, I've enjoyed gobbling up as many books of hers as I possibly can, and I've also loved getting the opportunity to see how well those books were brought to life on the screen.

Of course I've now read quite a few of her books, as she has A LOT currently available, but there are definitely some that have become favorites for me that seem to get read over and over again, and those are the ones I want to talk about today.

1) 16 Lighthouse Road: Book One In The Cedar Cove series:

This is by far my favorite series of Debbie's. I love how she's created a fictional town based on her actual hometown of Port Orchard, Washington, and how over the course of the twelve books and two novellas included in this series, the reader gets to see their favorite characters again and again, but also be introduced to a new family or character each book that adds extra depth to the series.

2) A Cedar Cove Christmas: Cedar Cove 8.5

This book was my first introduction to both the Cedar Cove series, and Debbie Macomber's books. I had no idea at the time that this was part of a series, I was just intrigued by the sweet sounding Christmas contemporary novel. I fell completely in love with Mary Jo and Mack's story, and I loved the hilarious way Debbie also pays respect to the original Christmas story in this sweet and adorable retelling of it. My personal favorite were the "three Wyse men", and I highly recommend this one to pick up around the holidays, especially if you're a fan of Christmas novels and sweet romance novels.

3) Dashing Through The Snow:

I've already reviewed this particular one on my blog, (which you can find here: http://thepreppybookprincess.blogspot.ca/2015/12/dashing-through-snow-brand-new-novel-by.html), but I definitely have to include it today on my list of my favorite Debbie Macomber novels. This hilarious, but heartwarming Christmas story revolves around Ashley, a graduate student who last minute wants nothing more than to make it home for Christmas, and Dash, a somewhat cynical former army intelligence officer who doesn't really care too much for Christmas. Circumstances end up having the two of them share a vehicle for a road trip across the country, and hilarity and hi jinks follow at every stop along the way. I also thought the Hallmark channel did a really good job of adapting this one last Christmas, and it's one of my all time favorite Christmas novels.

4) Trading Christmas:

I featured this one in my Christmas in July book recommendations post, but I also definitely have to include it here. This hilarious novels follows two middle aged individuals who decide to swap houses for the holiday season, and end up with more than they bargained for when unexpected visitors show up unannounced, and turn the holiday season into something neither of them could have ever seen coming. In typical Debbie Macomber fashion, this book had me both tearing up and laughing out loud, and it's one of my favorite novels to pick up during the start of the holiday season to get into the Christmas spirit.

5) A Girl's Guide To Moving On:

This is one of Debbie's newest novels, and I borrowed it from the library, and ended up reading it twice during the week I had it checked out. I was so touched by this heartwarming story about two women who were originally brought together when the younger one married the older one's son, only to both be struck by tragedy when both their husbands proved unfaithful. The girl's guide to moving on becomes a guidebook of sorts for the two of them to gain their lives back, and I found myself cheering for both of these strong female characters who ended up in bad situations not of their own doing. This is definitely one of the best books I've read so far this year.

While I could go on and on with this post guys, I'm gonna stop here with five of my favorite novels, but just know that there's many others I could have recommended like Mrs. Miracle, Angels at the Table, and Dakota Born. If you've never read Debbie Macomber before, I hope this post will inspire you to do so, and I'm looking forward to getting to feature more of my favorite authors in the coming months.

Thanks so much for reading guys! And I will see you all on Wednesday for a new and exciting Top 5 Wednesday Topic.

First Line Friday: Courting Mr. Emerson

Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson. About The Book: When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. Making it her mission to get him to loosen up and embrace life, she embarks on what seems like a lost cause--and finds herself falling for him in the process. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...

First Line Friday: The Inheritance

Happy Friday Everyone :) I hope you're all had a great week and that you're staying safe no matter where you are. I haven't been leaving my house much lately other than for work, and because of this, I've had lots of reading time on my hands. Last year my hubby and I took a road trip that included a visit to our favorite bookstore, and we decided to each pick a book that wouldn't be our first choice. The purpose was to try and read something that still interested us, but would maybe be a bit different than what we would typically go for first. My pick ended up being The Inheritance by Michael Phillips, a book I actually ended up being quite excited about, despite never having heard of it prior. Unfortunately, it ended up sitting on my bookshelf ever since, and I'm so thankful I finally got the opportunity to pick it up and start reading it this past week. The Inheritance by Michael Phillips: About the Book: The death of the clan patriarch h...
