Ahsoka by E.K. Johnston Review

Hello Bookish Friends :)

Thank you all for joining me today here on The Preppy Book Princess.

A lot of people tend to be surprised when they hear that I really love Star Wars. I have no idea why this is the case, as it's something I talk about quite often, but alas, it still seems to surprise people.

However, I tend to love a side of Star Wars that a lot of fans don't. I actually really enjoy all the new movies, I really enjoyed The Clone Wars movie, and two of my favorite characters are R2D2 and Ahsoka Tano.

So to put it mildly, I was pretty excited when I found out that there was a middle grade book written about Ahsoka's life between The Clone Wars and Rebels. And yet, it still ended up taking me a couple of years to get to reading it.

After finishing it, I knew I wanted to share with all of you what I thought about it.

Finally, her story will begin to be told. Following her experiences with the Jedi and the devastation of Order 66, Ahsoka is unsure she can be part of a larger whole ever again. But her desire to fight the evils of the Empire and protect those who need it will lead her right to Bail Organa, and the Rebel Alliance .

My Review:

Ahsoka is one of my all time favorite Star Wars characters, so I was really looking forward to getting to read more about her story in this middle grade novel by E.K. Johnston. The timeline in this one does not start right from Ahsoka leaving the Jedi Temple, and instead takes place a few years down the road once Palpatine has become Emperor, and the Jedi have been almost destroyed.

This story basically bridges the gap between The Clone Wars and Rebels, and tells what happens to Ahsoka between going into hiding from the Empire, and showing up in Rebels as Fulcrum. Most of the plot is honestly more descriptive and narrative, with mainly laying the background behind her story, and not a lot of true action happens until later at the end. I wasn't truly expecting this to add much to the Star Wars canon, so I wasn't disappointed when it didn't.

Most of the story is about Ahsoka's time on Raada; a moon home to a rustic farming community, where she ends up hiding out, and making new friends that become a central part of the book's plot later on. As a Jedi padawan, she'd learned to be suspicious of everyone and everything, and had never been open to making friends. Her time on Raada changes her stance on this a bit, and I enjoyed seeing the friendships she develops throughout the rest of the story.

Of course since R2D2 is my all time favorite Star Wars characters, I loved his addition in a few of the scenes here, and also the brief glimpses into the younger years of Leia growing up secluded from where she's come from.

Overall, I enjoyed this alright, and I liked getting a more in depth look into Ahsoka's character. I thought E.K. Johnston did a pretty good job adapting her story from screen to page, and I enjoyed getting to see glimpses of many other Star Wars characters. However, this was written a bit more juvenile than I was expecting, I found the story dragged for the first half or so, and it took me quite awhile to finish considering how short of a book it truly is.

All in all, I gave this one a rating of three out of five stars, and while I'm glad I took the time to read it, I don't foresee it being a reread for me in the future.

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day :)

First Line Friday: Courting Mr. Emerson

Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson. About The Book: When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. Making it her mission to get him to loosen up and embrace life, she embarks on what seems like a lost cause--and finds herself falling for him in the process. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...

First Line Friday: The Inheritance

Happy Friday Everyone :) I hope you're all had a great week and that you're staying safe no matter where you are. I haven't been leaving my house much lately other than for work, and because of this, I've had lots of reading time on my hands. Last year my hubby and I took a road trip that included a visit to our favorite bookstore, and we decided to each pick a book that wouldn't be our first choice. The purpose was to try and read something that still interested us, but would maybe be a bit different than what we would typically go for first. My pick ended up being The Inheritance by Michael Phillips, a book I actually ended up being quite excited about, despite never having heard of it prior. Unfortunately, it ended up sitting on my bookshelf ever since, and I'm so thankful I finally got the opportunity to pick it up and start reading it this past week. The Inheritance by Michael Phillips: About the Book: The death of the clan patriarch h...
