Twelve Slays of Christmas by Jacqueline Frost Review

Hello Everyone :)

I hope you're all having a great week so far!

Back in the fall, I had read and reviewed Twas The Knife Before Christmas by Jacqueline Frost. At the time I didn't realize it was the second book in the series, and after finding that fact out, I always meant to go back and read the first book.

I finally got the chance to do that recently, and it was just as good as the second book was. Jacqueline Frost is fast becoming one of my favorite cozy mystery authors, and I can't wait to share about this book with you all today.

Twelve Slays of Christmas by Jacqueline Frost:

Source: Library

Publisher: Crooked Lane Books

Publication Date: October 10th, 2017

Genre: Cozy Mystery

Series: Christmas Tree Farm Mystery

Synopsis:

When Holly White's fiance cancels their Christmas Eve wedding with less than two weeks to go, Holly heads home with a broken heart. Lucky for her, home in historic Mistletoe, Maine is magical during Christmastime--exactly what the doctor prescribed. Except her plan to drown her troubles in peppermints and snickerdoodles is upended when local grouch and president of the Mistletoe Historical Society Margaret Fenwick is bludgeoned and left in the sleigh display at Reindeer Games, Holly's family tree farm.
When the murder weapon is revealed as one of the wooden stakes used to identify trees on the farm, Sheriff Evan Grey turns to Holly's father, Bud, and the Reindeer Games staff. And it doesn't help that Bud and the reindeer keeper were each seen arguing with Margaret just before her death. But Holly knows her father, and is determined to exonerate him.The jingle bells are ringing, the clock is ticking, and if Holly doesn't watch out, she'll end up on Santa's naughty list in Twelve Slays of Christmas, Jacqueline Frost's jolly series debut.

My Review:

I suggest you grab yourself a mug of hot coco and a plate of homemade snicker doodles, and curl up with this lovely holiday mystery that's sure to keep you both invested in the mystery unfolding throughout its pages, and put you right back into the Christmas spirit.

Holly White's Christmas isn't going the way she assumed it was going to. Her fiance dumped her only a few weeks before their planned Christmas Eve wedding, and for a yoga instructor no less. She ends up moving back home to Mistletoe, Maine to her parent's Christmas tree farm, Reindeer Games. She's looking forward to a few weeks of quiet holiday experiences to help her through this difficult time. However, life definitely doesn't always go the way we plan it, and everyone in Mistletoe is shocked when local resident and president of the historical society, Margaret Fenwick, is found murdered on Holly's parent's farm. Local law enforcement is quick to point the blame on Holly's father, who was one of the last to see Margaret alive. Holly is determined to do whatever it takes to clear her father's name, as the family farm's reputation is depending on it.

I enjoy the way that Jacqueline Frost's cozy mysteries always seem a little more realistic than some others I've read. Holly is a pretty smart protagonist, and knows first hand the dangers she's putting herself in, even though it doesn't usually stop her from doing so. The setting of this series is probably my favorite ever in a cozy mystery series, and I'm always left wishing that Reindeer Games was a real place. I adore Holly, I really enjoy Evan, Holly's parent's are lovely, and the various other town members are always a hoot.

I really hope there's going to be more books in this series as both books one and two are a treat to read, and I highly recommend these to anyone who's a fan of cozy mysteries.

Final Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day :)

First Line Friday: Courting Mr. Emerson

Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson. About The Book: When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. Making it her mission to get him to loosen up and embrace life, she embarks on what seems like a lost cause--and finds herself falling for him in the process. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...

First Line Friday: The Inheritance

Happy Friday Everyone :) I hope you're all had a great week and that you're staying safe no matter where you are. I haven't been leaving my house much lately other than for work, and because of this, I've had lots of reading time on my hands. Last year my hubby and I took a road trip that included a visit to our favorite bookstore, and we decided to each pick a book that wouldn't be our first choice. The purpose was to try and read something that still interested us, but would maybe be a bit different than what we would typically go for first. My pick ended up being The Inheritance by Michael Phillips, a book I actually ended up being quite excited about, despite never having heard of it prior. Unfortunately, it ended up sitting on my bookshelf ever since, and I'm so thankful I finally got the opportunity to pick it up and start reading it this past week. The Inheritance by Michael Phillips: About the Book: The death of the clan patriarch h...
