My Bookish Life: Goldfish, BBQ's, and TBR Carts

Hello Friends :)

I'm Kirby, and welcome back (or welcome for the first time ) to The Preppy Book Princess.

For as long as I can remember, I've loved watching reading vlogs on YouTube. I adore seeing the behind the scenes progress of people's reading habits, and I love when they also include a look into their everyday life beyond reading and filming.

So today I felt inspired by all the reading vlogs I've been watching, and I decided to introduce a brand new feature on my blog that I'm titling My Bookish Life.

I don't plan on posting these every single week, but I thought maybe once or twice a month I'd share with you all some glimpses into my life, and the books I read during each particular time period.

I'm very excited about this new venture, and I can't wait to get started with it today.

To start things off, these were my books of choice from the past week.

I finished Starflight by Melissa Landers, and ended up really enjoying it. I enjoy sci fi settings, and this book is honestly more what I was expecting Zenith by Sasha Alsberg and Lindsay Cummings to be like.  It's got great world building, awesome characters, and a slow burn romance. I also really liked the fact that the sci fi setting is one of colonization from Earth to space, rather than on alien life forms which is how most of the other sci fi books I've read have been set up. I gave this one a rating of four out of five stars and I really enjoyed it.

I also finished It's a Love Story: From Happily to Ever After by Lincee Ray. You can read my full review here, but it was everything I was hoping for, and I adored it. Lincee Ray's writing style is addicting, and I hope to see more books from her in the future. I also rated this one four out of five stars.

Lastly, I started the sequel to Starflight, Starfall, last week, although I didn't get too far into it. I'm not as interested with the main character in this one, so that's slightly hindering my enjoyment of it, but I am still looking forward to diving back into this world.

One highlight of last week for both my husband and I was putting our garden in. We both grew up in families that loved gardening, and this has definitely been passed on to the two of us. There's also nothing better than fresh veggies when the harvest comes in, and I already have some recipes pinned that I'm looking forward to trying.

And as always, anytime Neil and I are working in the garden, Katsa is watching to see just what we're up to:

Neil and I also took a day trip last week out of the city to do some shopping. I picked up a few things at Michaels, Homesense, and Bath and Body Works, and right before we were leaving the city, we stopped to get some Starbucks. I went in to get our drinks, and he had texted me that he was just running into the pet store nearby really quick. I didn't think that much of this because we're always ducking into pet stores to grab food, toys or treats for Katsa, but little did I know Neil had other plans this time, and came out carrying a bag of goldfish. Don't get me wrong, I adore fish, and we haven't had any in years, but I'm not the greatest in situations where something is thrown at me with no preparation, and I immediately started stressing about how we were going to get this all set up at home and where we were going to put them and whatnot.

However, it all worked out in the end, and I love having fish again.

My most exciting purchase in the city was my tbr cart from Michaels. I've been seeing and wanting one of these forever, and I finally decided to go ahead and grab one. We went to Michaels as our first stop and they didn't have the color I wanted, but when we went back later they'd just restocked the carts, and they had the one I wanted. That night when we got home the two of us put it all together, and I can't wait to add my books, and get it all organized.

It's the perfect addition to my home library, and I can't wait to start using it, and featuring it in my Bookstagram photos.

And lastly,

we ended up having my best friend, and Neil's mom and sister over for a BBQ one night last week. It wasn't something that we planned on doing, but it all came together quickly, and I was very happy with how everything turned out. Plus, it was awesome to have a night off from all the stress of our week just to visit with friends and family.

I started off that morning by putting corn on the cob in the slow cooker, as it turns out so tender this way, and it frees up more room on the BBQ.

You simply husk and clean your corn, brush it with butter, sprinkle it with salt (or whatever other spice you're wanting to use on it) wrap each cob tightly in foil, and cook it on low for six to eight hours.

There's so many flavor combinations I've experimented with this way, and it's my absolute favorite way to cook corn on the cob.

I also whipped up a pasta salad and a rhubarb crisp with fresh rhubarb from our garden, and then prepped burgers, veggie burgers and potatoes to go on the BBQ. Neil handled the BBQing, while I finished with getting all the toppings ready, and making some homemade iced tea lemonade.

Everything came together beautifully, and it was a great kickoff BBQ to the summer!

Thanks so much for joining me today guys for my first ever My Bookish Life post. I hope to post many more of these in the future. Have a great rest of your day!
