Hello Bookish Friends :)
I hope you're all doing well, and I want to thank you all for joining me for another book review here on The Preppy Book Princess.
In Tune With Love by Amy Matayo:
Source: Christmas Gift
Publisher: Zondervan
Publication Date: March 31st, 2015
Synopsis:
They’ve helped orchestrate the perfect day for countless couples. Now twelve new couples will find themselves in the wedding spotlight in the second Year of Weddings novella collection.
April is willing to do anything for her sister’s wedding—until she comes face to face with a guy from her past.
April Quinn is thrilled to be her sister’s maid of honor, until the wedding coordinator quits and the responsibilities get dumped on her. It’s April’s worst nightmare—especially since her sister has more objections and opinions than a lawyer presenting a high-profile court case. When the wedding singer walks out at the last-minute, her sister hires a replacement. When April finds out who the replacement is, she’s ready to call it quits as well.
Because there’s only one person in April’s past that she never wanted to see again, and her sister just handed him a front row seat to the wedding.
Jack Vaughn finally has the career he’s always wanted. After playing in bars and singing in weddings as a struggling musician for half a decade, he’s just released his second album and sales are skyrocketing. But while visiting his parent’s Nashville home the weekend before his first headline tour, he runs into an old friend. When she asks him for a last-minute favor, he can’t bring himself to say no. Even though saying yes means he has to come face to face with April Quinn—the girl who hasn’t spoken to him in years.
And rightly so, since he stole something from her that he’ll never be able to repay.

My Review:
I really wanted to like this one, but it just didn't end up working for me. I thought from the synopsis that it would end up being one of my favorites from the Year of Wedding novellas since the "famous person falling for the regular person" trope is one of my all time favorites. However, I never formed any kind of connection to the characters, and I felt frustrated that by the end of the story it felt like neither of them had shown any growth or maturity. Neither main character was likable, and both had attitudes that were extremely off putting, and way too snarky for my liking. The main character's sister treated everyone around her horribly throughout the entire story, and it didn't feel like any amends were made towards this either.
Since I didn't enjoy the characters, it's probably not surprising that the romance really didn't work for me. While I know with novellas the romance usually is rushed, this one really seemed to go above and beyond. I never felt any of the chemistry, and never saw a potential for a real relationship developing. The ending comes on really sudden, and I didn't feel it adequately wrapped up the story or answered any of the questions I had swimming around in my mind.
However, what disappointed me the most with this particular title was the complete and utter lack of a faith element. If a book is marketed as Christian fiction, I want to see that God, and faith play at least a partial part of the story, and that just wasn't the case here.
I did enjoy the author's writing style, as I never felt bored or uninterested in the story, and perhaps I'd enjoy her work more in a full length novel than I did with this novella.
Final Rating: ⭐⭐
I don't personally recommend this title, but I wouldn't be opposed to trying something else by this author in the future.
Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day!
