Mandie and Jonathan's Predicament by Lois Gladys Leppard Review

Happy Wednesday Everyone :)

I hope you're all having a great week so far!

Mine has actually been really great. I ended up spending Sunday at my Aunt and Uncle's farm with a few of my family members to celebrate a birthday. It was so nice getting to spend time with family, enjoy delicious food, and explore their gorgeous property. Monday I had a pretty productive day around the house, and then ended up working for a few hours. Yesterday, I had the pleasure of getting to go shopping and for Starbucks with one of my friends, and I ended up purchasing a gorgeous sweater that will be perfect for the upcoming chilly fall days. It was extra exciting that the Starbucks fall items are out now, and I got to try a pumpkin spice frappuccino made with creme base since I'm not a coffee fan, and also a delicious pumpkin scone.

I know this was a super long winded intro, but I wanted to share just how lovely this week has been so far.

A couple of weeks ago on my blog, I reviewed a title from the Mandie series by Lois Gladys Leppard which you can find here, and since I've finished rereading a couple more titles in this childhood favorites series of mine, I decided to review another one for all of you guys today.

Mandie and Jonathan's Predicament by Lois Gladys Leppard:

Source: Library

Publisher: Bethany House

Publication Date: June 1st, 1997

Genre: Christian Fiction/Middle Grade

Series: Mandie

Synopsis:

Mandie couldn't have been more excited when her mother said she could travel to New York City with Celia and Jane Hamilton to visit Jonathan Guyer and his father for the Thanksgiving holidays.

Arriving by train with a firm grip on Snowball, Mandie is overwhelmed by the city's monstrous buildings and people racing everywhere. When Mr. Guyer insists that they stay at the Guyer mansion, it's even better because now they'll be close to Jonathan.

But there are strange things going on at Jonathan's house. Who is the strange girl who demands that Jonathan give her the stray dog they found in the Guyer backyard? And who is the foreign-speaking man whom Mandie discovers meeting in secret with the butler? What's really going on behind all the closed doors of the mansion?

The strange man leads them far from home. Is it a trap?

My Review:

I've been very much enjoying a reread of the entire Mandie series. A series that was one of my favorites from my childhood, and a series that I happily gobbled up each and every time I was given a new story from.

Mandie and Jonathan's Predicament is unique in that its set in New York City, and showcases Mandie's first visit to the Big Apple with her friend Celia and her mother, Jane Hamilton. Although both girls have big ideas for how they want to spend their time in the city, first and foremost on Mandie's mind is reuniting with her friend Jonathan who they met on their big Europe adventure.

Anyone who's familiar with Mandie's stories, knows that adventure and mystery tends to follow her wherever she goes, and New York is no exception. Jane, Celia and Mandie are invited to be guests in Jonathan's grand New York estate, and soon it appears everything is not what it seems. A friendly dog shows up out of nowhere, a girl shows up claiming she's the owner of the dog, and the butler seems to be mixed up in unsavory dealings surrounding the little girl and the man who often accompanies her.

While I wouldn't say this is my favorite Mandie title, I really enjoyed getting to see her first visit to the big city, and to see more of Jonathan and his father. While the Mandie series is definitely aimed towards children, they are still fun to read as an adult, and are a great Christian, clean series for kids of all ages to enjoy again and again.

Growing up, Snowball was always one of my favorite characters as I loved reading about all the antics that silly kitty seems to get up to, and as an adult, my feelings on this haven't changed.

Final Rating: 4/5

I can't recommend this lovely series enough, and I wish that Bethany House would republish the single edition titles as I'd love to be able to collect the many that I don't already own.

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day :)

Della and Darby by Susannah B. Lewis Review

Happy Monday Friends :) I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you decided to stop by my little corner of the internet. My husband and I actually have this week off of work for a much needed holiday, and I'm excited for the many fun things we have planned. Aside from the fun things, I'm honestly thankful to have some extra time to get my house back in shape, and to get more organized for Christmas. I also hope to have lots of time to curl up with some great reads, and I recently had a chance to read one of my most anticipated 2023 releases! Earlier in the year, I read my first novel by Susannah B. Lewis, and I couldn't have loved it more. It was definitely one of my favorite reads of this entire year, and I've been looking forward to reading her next release ever since. Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson. About The Book: When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. Making it her mission to get him to loosen up and embrace life, she embarks on what seems like a lost cause--and finds herself falling for him in the process. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...
