My Bookish Life: Saskatchewan Entertainment Expo 2019!

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

I hope you're all having a great week, and that you're all as excited as I am that is finally officially fall!

Fall is by far my favorite season, and the months of September through December are my favorite months of the entire year.

The weekend of September 14th and 15th,  I had the pleasure of getting to attend the Saskatchewan Entertainment Expo with my hubby and one of our good friends, and I thought for today's post that I'd love to share a weekend in my life post about our time at the expo.

I'm going to quickly state that we maybe didn't get to do quite as much at this particular expo as we'd planned on, thanks to me injuring myself a few days prior and having stitches and such as a result. However, we still had an amazing weekend, and I'm looking forward to sharing all about it with you guys!

Friday September 13th, 2019:

Today did not start out the way I'd planned. Originally I was supposed to work this day, as were Neil and our friend, and we'd be leaving after Neil finished work around seven thirty. However, since I ended up being off work for a few days because of my injury, I ended up spending most of the day resting and relaxing, and doing some last minute packing. Neil left for work around ten thirty, and I worked on my blog for a couple of hours. I also made sure to spend lots of time with Katsa since we wouldn't see her for a couple of days.

I ended up watching some YouTube videos of previous expos, and I also decided to watch the new Netflix movie, Tall Girl. I ended up being pleasantly surprised with this one as it was reasonably clean, and that hasn't been my experience with most Netflix originals as of late.

Neil made it home shortly after seven, and we finished packing and started loading everything into the car. Unfortunately for me, packing was a bit of a challenge this time around, as I had to bring so much extra stuff on account of my injuries. I needed a bunch of bandages and creams and whatnot, but I also didn't know what would be comfortable to wear to the expo, so I ended up having way more bags than expected.

We picked our friend up shortly before eight, and got on our way for the long drive ahead of us. We stopped about halfway and grabbed some dinner, and then continued on the long drive. We finally arrived at our hotel shortly after midnight, and were quite surprised with how many other people were checking in so late.

We had chosen the Towneplace Suites in Saskatoon because it was one of the recommended expo hotels, and they were offering a great rate for expo attendees. We got checked in, unpacked the best we could, and were off to bed as we had an extremely early morning ahead of us.

Saturday, September 14th, 2019:

My alarm went off at seven the next morning which honestly felt way too early after the late night we'd had the night before. My friend and I started getting our cosplays ready to go (I was going as Miss Frizzle), and then it was off to go downstairs for a quick breakfast. After breakfast, we finished getting ready, and were off on our way shortly after nine for the expo.

We bought deluxe tickets this time for the first time ever, and it was awesome to get our own separate entrance and to get into the expo half an hour early. The line was a little slow moving this morning, as everyone had to get their tote bags and such, but eventually it was our turn, and we were on our way in.

We received our badges, our tote bags and t shirts, and each got to pick an autographed picture from a previous attendee. After that, we decided to meander through the numerous vendors, and keep an eye out for anything we might want to pick up either today or tomorrow. There were so many vendors that it was honestly hard to narrow down my choices, but there were a lot of beautiful things to look at. We especially loved the booth that was their with kittens to foster. They were adorable.

After browsing for a bit, we decided to head over to the other hall to look at the various attractions there.

We ended up browsing the reptile area for a little bit, and also the memory express gaming area.

From there we decided to go ahead and get a seat for the Billy Dee Williams panel as his was one of the panels I was the most excited for. The panel was due to start at twelve, and we got a seat about forty minutes prior to that. We got front row seats, right in the center of the stage, and we all really enjoyed this panel. We're all Star Wars fans, and it was amazing to get to hear Billy speak about his career and its numerous highlights.

After the Billy Dee Williams panel, we decided to keep our seats for the Amy Acker panel as well. While I've loved many of her movies, I wasn't familiar with any of the ones they ended up talking about during the panel. I'm more a fan of her work with the Hallmark Channel, but I still ended up enjoying hearing her talk about her career.

After the Amy Acker panel was over, it was time for the Kim's Convenience panel, and this is the one that Neil was the most excited about. This ended up being one of our favorite panels from the entire expo, as Andrew and Paul were hilarious and both seemed extremely down to earth. It was awesome that we were able to keep our front row seats right through, and I also appreciated getting to sit down for this long as it really helped my knees with feeling better.

After the Kim's Convenience panel was finished, we made our way out of the main panel room, and we decided to try and find something to eat. I was much more impressed with the food choices at this expo than I had been with Regina's. They had three separate concession areas, and we ended up eating at the one in the smaller of the two expo halls. They had some delicious soups and wraps, and it ended up being a great choice for the three of us.

Now it was onward to shopping and meeting the celebrity guests. We ended up browsing the vendors once again for about forty five minutes, and all three of us ended up buying surprise bags from the same vendor. Neil got Dragon Ball Z and my friend and I both picked Harry Potter. We then went over so I could get my picture taken with Amy Acker, and I got to tell her how much I loved her Hallmark movie A Novel Romance, as I told her that I'm a book blogger as well and I really loved how it focuses on book reviewing.

Neil then wanted to meet Marina Sirtis from Star Trek, and we had an awesome meet and greet with her. She told Neil that she was going to give him some advice from Councilor Troi: and she said "she's the best thing that's ever happened to you. Don't Screw this up!" It was hilarious, and she was such a kind and welcoming person, and we both really enjoyed this meet and greet.

Afterwards, Neil and I decided to get in line to meet Andrew and Paul from Kim's Convenience, and our friend decided to go off and do some shopping while we waited. This was by far the longest line we waited in the entire expo, but it was by far worth it as they were taking so much time with each guest. When it was our turn we had a lovely visit, and found both of them to be such down to earth and friendly individuals.

By the time we finished with this meet and greet, it was almost five thirty, and we decided to head out for the day. We went back to the hotel and got changed and cleaned up, and then headed off to a sushi restaurant for supper. It was delicious, and we were all pretty happy with our choice.

We finished out our day with some shopping at winners, and then a quick Starbucks stop before heading back to relax for the rest of the night at the hotel.

We'd had an awesome day, and we were all looking forward to day three.

Sunday, September 15th, 2019:

Today started out a little later than the previous day had. We were all pretty exhausted from the day before, and so we were a little later getting up. Unfortunately, my knees were really hurting today, and so I decided against doing my R2D2 cosplay, and just went in regular clothes instead.

We got ready, and headed downstairs for breakfast, where we ended up running into quite a few people we recognized from the expo the day before. We were on our way to the expo shortly after nine o clock, but unfortunately we missed our turn, and it took us a little while to backtrack. We didn't end up arriving at the expo until a few minutes before ten, but all was good as it didn't look like the crowds this morning were that extensive.

We started off our day with doing more browsing at the various vendor booths. I ended up purchasing a Christmas present for my older brother (which I'm not going to share just in case he happens to see this), and then made our way over to one of the comic book booths. All three of us browsed here for a bit, and we ended up finding a few of the dollar ones that we wanted. Neil had been searching for a particular title "The Death of Superman", and I ended up asking the guys here if they had it. They did have a special edition factory sealed copy, and Neil was a very happy camper with this purchase. We ended up then going over to meet Tom Grummett (who was one of the main comic artists on the death of superman), and got him to autograph the copy he just bought. He was so nice and down to earth, and we also ended up buying a print from him as well.

After this, I ended up leaving the other two for a bit as I wanted to grab a Christmas present for Neil that I'd seen the day before, and then afterwards we did a bit more browsing of some of the booths we'd missed the day before.

Around a quarter after eleven we decided to go get a seat for Marina Sirtis' panel (Counselor Troi from Star Trek), and once again we were lucky enough to get front row seats.

Even though I'm not that familiar with Star Trek, this ended up being my favorite panel of all the ones we attended. She was downright hilarious, and kept the crowd entertained for the entire forty five minutes. She also had some pretty amazing things to say on cyber bullying, and other various important issues, and I was so thankful we got to hear her speak. Neil was in his element as he's a huge "trekkie" and this was one of the highlights from the weekend for him.

After her panel finished, we once again kept our seats for the Michael Rooker panel. I was once again not too familiar with him, but this was the panel our friend was the most excited about. I know that once I do finally get up to watching Guardians of the Galaxy (I'm trying to watch all the Marvel movies in order), I'll be really thankful I got to see him speak on this panel.

This panel was seriously one of the strangest I'd ever personally attended, as Michael Rooker has a very unique sense of humor. Over the course of the forty five minutes we saw him demonstrate a martial arts move that sent the moderator flying into a chair, hear his story about hunting wild turkeys, and see him take off into the audience to ask their questions faster. It was a very entertaining panel to say the least.

After his panel was over, we headed back to the main hall to do the last of our shopping. I ended up not buying too much, but I knew I wanted to get a few things from Kay Pop Art Studio. Her work is gorgeous, and I literally could have bought everything. I ended up purchasing a Narnia print pillowcase, and five bookmarks, as well as picking up another Christmas present. I already know I will be putting an order in on her online store-both for things for myself and for various other Christmas presents. Her booth was by far my favorite from the entire vendor hall.

After doing our last minute shopping, we all decided we were ready to head out. We'd pretty much seen everything we had wanted to see, and we figured we could head out and have something to eat at a sit down restaurant. We ended up eating at the Cave, as my friend and I were both craving pasta. We had a lovely, and yummy lunch, and then headed off to do some shopping. We visited a mall, and then headed to Old Navy and to Homesense. Afterwards we headed back to the hotel to unload everything we bought, and to relax for a bit.

We finished the evening out with take out from Mucho Burrito, and we watched some Kim's Convenience in the hotel room while enjoying a game of Sequence.

We also got a head start on all the packing that needed to be finished in order for us to check out the next day.

Monday, September 16th, 2019:

We all slept in a bit the next morning, and made it down for breakfast at about nine o clock. After breakfast, we finished packing everything up, and headed downstairs to check out. We had an amazing stay at this hotel, and I made sure to let the front desk staff know as much.

After checking out of the hotel, we decided to finish off our trip with a visit to two of the comic book stores that are in Saskatoon. We all ended up finding a couple of little goodies we wanted to purchase, and it was a fun end to our weekend.

From there, it was time to hit the road, and we made it home successfully, stopping only to grab some Subway along the way.

We had a great weekend at the Saskatchewan Entertainment Expo and I know we're all already looking forward to next year's expos!

Haul:

I don't have pictures of every single thing we bought this time as a lot of it was gifts for Christmas, and a lot of it had already been put away. However, I still thought I'd include a couple of pictures of some of the the things Neil and I ended up coming home from expo with.

As you can see, we both ended up with various goodies in our themed surprise bags, as well as a few things from our favorite booths, and numerous autographs.

I'm so thankful for the fun weekend we were able to spend at the expo! Thank you guys all so much for reading, and I'll see you all again on Friday where I'll be sharing another fun book review with you all.
