I can't wait to share with all of you what I ended up thinking about this one.

My Review:

As a huge fan of Christian suspense, I'm actually quite surprised that this was my first time ever reading a novel by Lisa Harris. I know she's one of the best known authors from this genre, and I've had her books recommended to me time and time again, but until now I'd never gotten the chance to pick one up. After reading this one, I can wholeheartedly proclaim that she is easily a new favorite author, and I can't wait to read more books from her in the future.

The Traitor's Pawn is action packed right from the start, and keeps the reader guessing around each and every plot twist and turn. Aubrey is a detective who's visiting family friends when tragedy strikes, and her best friend from high school, Jack, now a prominent FBI agent gets pulled into helping her figure out the huge mystery that's unfolding around them. Contrary to the usual Christian suspense novel, the romance takes a backseat to the mystery element, and I thought it was a nice change. I really enjoyed both characters and could feel the chemistry between them, but I enjoyed how the emphasis was more on them rebuilding their friendship, rather than them rushing into a relationship.

When I pick up a Christian fiction title, I'm very particular on the faith element. I want it to be a strong focus of the story, but definitely to not come across as forced or preachy. I absolutely loved the way that Lisa Harris writes in the faith content so authentically and flawlessly, and I lost track of just how many passages I ended up highlighting throughout that really spoke to me. This book is the perfect example of how the spiritual content should be woven throughout a Christian fiction title, and I wholeheartedly appreciated that fact.

While I've read quite a few Christian suspense novels over the years, I appreciated that the set up of this one was quite different than what I'm used to. While I'd still consider it to be pretty action packed, there was more of an emphasis on the actual investigation side of things, and I found that extremely interesting. It was enjoyable to read about the way an actual investigation might proceed, and the way that the agents were constantly having to think in different ways to try and stay one step ahead of the bad guys.

Overall, this was an engaging and entertaining read, and I highly enjoyed it. I think even readers that don't typically like suspense romance will enjoy this one as the romance really does take a backseat to everything else going on. My first experience with a Lisa Harris novel was definitely a positive one, and I look forward to reading more of her books in the future.

Thanks so much to Revell for providing me with a complimentary copy of this!

I received a complimentary copy of this novel to voluntarily read and review from the publisher (Revell) as part of the Revell Reads Blogger Program. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I was not required to give a positive review.

First Line Friday: Courting Mr. Emerson

Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson. About The Book: When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. Making it her mission to get him to loosen up and embrace life, she embarks on what seems like a lost cause--and finds herself falling for him in the process. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...

First Line Friday: The Inheritance

Happy Friday Everyone :) I hope you're all had a great week and that you're staying safe no matter where you are. I haven't been leaving my house much lately other than for work, and because of this, I've had lots of reading time on my hands. Last year my hubby and I took a road trip that included a visit to our favorite bookstore, and we decided to each pick a book that wouldn't be our first choice. The purpose was to try and read something that still interested us, but would maybe be a bit different than what we would typically go for first. My pick ended up being The Inheritance by Michael Phillips, a book I actually ended up being quite excited about, despite never having heard of it prior. Unfortunately, it ended up sitting on my bookshelf ever since, and I'm so thankful I finally got the opportunity to pick it up and start reading it this past week. The Inheritance by Michael Phillips: About the Book: The death of the clan patriarch h...
