DITL: My Birthday Vacation With My Hubby

 Happy Friday Friends :)

As I'm writing this, I'm actually away again with my hubby for a few days. He had a ton of unused vacation days that he needed to get rid of, and since we'd had such a fantastic trip the first time we decided to go back to the same place.

However, today I thought it would be fun to share a day in the life post with you all about our first trip to the mineral spa, which was from January 13th-15th for my birthday.

I haven't done one of these posts in a very long time, so I thought it would be fun to do one today.

January 13th, 2020:

We had originally planned to leave around noon, but crazy weather was supposed to be blowing in to our part of the province, and we in no way wanted to get caught in it. Since we had about a two hour drive ahead of us, we got ready quickly and were on the road shortly before eleven. The drive was fairly uneventful and we made it to the mineral spa about 1pm. We were so thankful that our room was already ready, and we got to work unpacking and organizing.

I couldn't believe how huge our room ended up being, especially the enormous closet. We quickly unpacked a bit and then headed out for a drive to find some food as we were both starving. Now unfortunately we ended up choosing to go with the Chopped Leaf just to grab something quick, and even though I've had great experiences with this restaurant in other cities, it just wasn't a good experience this time. The lettuce was brown and red, and nothing really tasted that fresh. However, it filled us up and we were ready to go to the mineral spa for the first time.

This was both of our first time visiting this mineral spa, and we loved it. The waters have been compared to the famous ones at Bath, and we loved how the pool was both indoors and outdoors, even in the winter.

After soaking for awhile, we headed upstairs to finish unpacking and get cleaned up. And I ended up reading from the two books I was currently reading (Follow Me by David Platt and Tidewater Bride by Laura Frantz).

After a nice relaxing afternoon, we decided to just order takeout for dinner as the wind was really picking up outside and it was supposed to start raining or snowing within the next little bit.

We ended up ordering from a lovely farm to table restaurant (another first for both of us!) and it was fantastic. When we went to pick it up, the weather had turned completely crazy with winds over 100 km an hour and a rain/snow mix starting to come down. We took our food back to the hotel, enjoyed our delicious meal and then headed down for another soak in the mineral pool.

From here things turned a little weird as the hotel ended up losing power for a few minutes once we were back in our room. We didn't think much of it as it was only out for a few minutes, but the next day we found out that power was still out in various parts of the city and the province, and this huge storm had done a ton of damage. It had been kind of surreal sitting in the outdoor pool in the midst of the crazy storm, but we didn't realize at the time just how much damage this storm was going to end up inflicting upon our province.

We decided to each just curl up and read and then turn in for the night.

January 14th, 2020:

The next morning brought with it cold temperatures and still frigid winds, so I started the day soaking in the mineral pool. I also managed to somehow forget to pack socks so a trip to Walmart was one of the first things we needed to do today. We enjoyed a quick breakfast in the room from pastries and fruit we'd brought with us, and then we set off to Walmart. I couldn't believe how much of the city didn't have power, and felt really bad for everyone affected by the crazy outages.

We'd originally planned today to go into a bigger city that's only a short drive away to go to a bookstore and some other stores, but with the weather being what it was and the highways not looking great, we decided against it. We also were trying to find somewhere to pick up something to eat, and since there weren't many places with power, we just ended up grabbing something quick from Dairy Queen and taking it back to our room.

After lunch, we both went for another soak in the mineral pool and then decided to head out to visit a comic book store my husband wanted to see and to go to the local mall.

We spent some time browsing various stores, and my hubby ended up finding a few comic books he'd been looking for. I didn't actually end up buying anything, as I didn't see anything I really needed, and I'm trying to get out of the habit of shopping just to shop as I want to try and find my identity completely in Christ, and not in material things.

Before we headed back to the hotel, we ended up going for a drive through a couple of beautiful parks, and I loved this part of the trip so much. We saw a huge family of deer and I ended up getting to take some bookstagram photos as well.

Back at the hotel we both settled in to relax for a bit, and then decided to order Chinese food for supper. It was still pretty cold and gross outside, so neither of us really felt like going out to a restaurant.

After dinner, we ended up visiting the mineral pool again, and then both settled in with our books to read for a bit.

We ended up deciding to go for a drive later on when the weather had tapered off, as there were lots of parts of the city that we hadn't seen yet.

After our drive we headed back to the hotel and both ended up turning in for the night.

January 15th, 2020:

Today was my birthday, and unfortunately the day we were going home, but we were determined to make the most of the time we had left.

I started off my birthday with some time at the mineral pool, and the weather had me a little leery about heading home. Over the past couple of days we'd seen pretty crazy weather and lots of highway closures so we were both hoping and praying that it wouldn't end up affecting us.

Once we were showed and dressed, we ended up walking over to a bistro near the spa for breakfast, and it was such a nice experience. The bistro was beautiful and the food was delicious and I can't wait to go back here soon.

After our lovely breakfast, we headed back to the spa to finish packing and check out.

Once checked out of the hotel, we ended up going for a brisk walk in one of the many beautiful parks and then going for a drive through some other areas of the city.

My hubby then wanted to stop one more time at the comic book store and we finished off our trip by stopping at a local coffee house to get some yummy drinks for the drive home.

The trip home was pretty uneventful, but I couldn't believe how much damage we saw on the highway from the crazy winds the days before.

We were thankful we arrived home safe and sound, and couldn't wait to head back soon. Which ended up being a lot sooner than we'd planned on.

I hope you guys enjoyed this day in the life post, and that you have a great rest of your day. I look forward to sharing another one of these posts with you all really soon about the vacation we're currently on.

Thanks for reading guys! I'll see you all soon :)
