Tidewater Bride by Laura Frantz Review

 Happy Monday Friends :)

I hope you all had a great weekend, and I want to thank you all for joining me for another book review here on The Preppy Book Princess.

Last week, my hubby ended up taking me away for a couple of days for my birthday and we had such a lovely time. Our province is currently under orders that we are not allowed to mix with other households in our homes, and so this would be the first birthday for me that I wouldn't have been able to get celebrate with my family at all. My hubby decided to do something differently this year since restrictions made things a lot more difficult, and he ended up taking me away to a mineral spa for a couple of days.

The mineral waters there were compared to the famous ones at Bath, and we had an amazing time taking in the waters, going for walks in a beautiful park, and checking out some great local restaurants. We both can't wait to go back, hopefully soon. I may share some photos and highlights in an upcoming post, but for today I'm excited to share with you all a review for a recently published title that I ended up reading while we were on our holiday.

(synopsis from goodreads)

My Review:

Tidewater Bride was my first experience with a novel by Laura Frantz, and I really ended up loving it. I've read a lot of Christian historical fiction over the years, and she's one of the very best I've encountered in terms of research and historical accuracy. This book made me want to start researching this time period in history, and I loved learning new facts about history that I wasn't aware of before reading this book.

Selah and Xander's story is turbulent and a bit of a roller coaster, but I loved every moment of it. Selah was an admirable character who truly loves her family, and wants to do whatever she can to honor them. I also loved how she wasn't a fan of the extravagance and privildge that so much of the colony prided itself on, and instead was more concerned with having a caring heart and doing whatever she can to help those around her. Likewise, Xander has such a big heart for everyone, especially those working his plantation, and I loved how he stands firm on all his beliefs despite the pressure that's constantly placed on him from the colony.

I really enjoyed reading more about the Powhatan's, and how Xander goes to great lengths to try and keep the peace between them and the colony. I went back and forth between barely being able to put this one down, but also wanting to take my time to truly cherish and savor each and every page. I loved how authentic the faith element is, and how it blended in seamlessly and felt like an exact representation of what it would have looked like during this time period.

While this was my first experience with a Laura Frantz novel, I can wholeheartedly say that it won't be my last. I loved her writing style, and ended up finding so many passages to highlight that I want to remember for later. She's definitely a new favorite within the Christian historical fiction genre for me, and I'm just sorry it took me this long to get around to trying one of her books.

Final Rating: 5/5.

There was nothing about this one that I didn't enjoy, and I definitely recommend that you all go ahead and read this one.

Thanks so much to Revell for providing me a copy of this one to read and review.

I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary copy of this novel from the publisher (Revell) as part of the Revell Reads Blog Tour program in exchange for an honest review. I was not required to leave a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Have a great rest of your day guys! Thanks so much for reading :)

Della and Darby by Susannah B. Lewis Review

Happy Monday Friends :) I pray today finds you all doing well, and I'm so thankful you decided to stop by my little corner of the internet. My husband and I actually have this week off of work for a much needed holiday, and I'm excited for the many fun things we have planned. Aside from the fun things, I'm honestly thankful to have some extra time to get my house back in shape, and to get more organized for Christmas. I also hope to have lots of time to curl up with some great reads, and I recently had a chance to read one of my most anticipated 2023 releases! Earlier in the year, I read my first novel by Susannah B. Lewis, and I couldn't have loved it more. It was definitely one of my favorite reads of this entire year, and I've been looking forward to reading her next release ever since. If you'd like to check out that review, you can do so using the link below: Bless Your Heart Rae Sutton Otherwise, keep on reading down below for today's full review. De...

First Line Friday: Courting Mr. Emerson

Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson. About The Book: When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. Making it her mission to get him to loosen up and embrace life, she embarks on what seems like a lost cause--and finds herself falling for him in the process. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...

Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Characters I'd name a child/cat/dog/car/ etc After.

Happy Tuesday guys! I enjoyed Top Ten Tuesday so much last week, that I decided to go ahead and take part again this week. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and The Bookish, and here's the link to the main page if you're interested in becoming a part of it: http://www.brokeandbookish.com/p/top-ten-tuesday-other-features.html Today's topic is: Ten Characters I'd Name A Child/Cat/Dog/Car/ etc After, and I think it's going to be a really fun one. First, Characters I'd Name a Pet after: 1) Katsa from Kristin Cashore's Graceling: I have to start with Katsa, since it is actually what we named our adorable black and white kitten almost a year ago. She's grown so much since this picture, but this was taken right after we decided on her name. We tried several different book characters, but Katsa is the one she loved right away, and so is what we ended up going with. 2) Rose from Richelle Mead's Vampire Academ...
