The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett Review

 Hello Everyone :)

I pray today finds you all doing well, and I want to thank you all for joining me for another book review here on The Preppy Book Princess.

I've been mentioning quite a bit on my blog the last year that I'm kind of burned out on a lot of the newer releases. I barely touch new secular fiction anymore, as honestly the content is slightly appalling, and many new Christian fiction titles have disappointed me with the amount of unnecessary content being included within those as well.

I've really been craving some good ole fashioned books, when the world was a much simpler place, and fiction was definitely cleaner, and as such, I've been enjoying working my way through some of the children's classics, most of which I'd read before but have really been enjoying getting to reread.

Today I'm excited to share my review of one of these titles with you all.

The Secret Garden by Frances  Hodgson Burnett:

Slowly she turns the key...

My Review:

This was probably my third or fourth time making my way through Francis Hodgson Burnett's masterpiece of a story, and I honestly think I would enjoy this book just as much no matter how many times I've read it before.

This story is truly both captivating and mesmerizing for adults and children alike, and manages to completely capture the reader in the magical story unfolding within the pages.

Mary and Colin may not be the most likeable of protagonists, but they still easily endear themselves to me, and I always feel for them for the awful childhood they've been forced to endure until this point, due to circumstances completely out of both of their control. As the garden starts to weave its "magic" on them both, we see such a lovely character development in both, and the perfect, whimsical childhood friendship start to develop.

I continue to adore this classic tale, and can't personally recommend it enough. It continues to hold a fond place in my heart so many years after our first introduction, and I can't wait to keep rereading it in the future to revisit the magic of one of my favorite book worlds.

Final Rating: 5/5.

Thanks so much for reading guys! Have a great rest of your day :)

First Line Friday: Courting Mr. Emerson

Happy Friday Everyone :) Since it is Friday, I'll once again be participating in First Line Friday which is hosted by Hoarding Books .  For this week, I'm going to be sharing the first line from Melody Carlson's newest book, Courting Mr. Emerson. About The Book: When the fun-loving and spontaneous artist Willow West meets buttoned-up, retired English teacher George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. Though she does find the obsessive-compulsive man intriguing. Making it her mission to get him to loosen up and embrace life, she embarks on what seems like a lost cause--and finds herself falling for him in the process. A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them. But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The quest...

First Line Friday: The Inheritance

Happy Friday Everyone :) I hope you're all had a great week and that you're staying safe no matter where you are. I haven't been leaving my house much lately other than for work, and because of this, I've had lots of reading time on my hands. Last year my hubby and I took a road trip that included a visit to our favorite bookstore, and we decided to each pick a book that wouldn't be our first choice. The purpose was to try and read something that still interested us, but would maybe be a bit different than what we would typically go for first. My pick ended up being The Inheritance by Michael Phillips, a book I actually ended up being quite excited about, despite never having heard of it prior. Unfortunately, it ended up sitting on my bookshelf ever since, and I'm so thankful I finally got the opportunity to pick it up and start reading it this past week. The Inheritance by Michael Phillips: About the Book: The death of the clan patriarch h...
