I've mentioned quite a few times on my blog in the last couple of years that I don't read too much secular fiction anymore. Young Adult Fiction used to be my absolute favorite, but over the last while I've grown really disheartened with the amount of unnecessary content being included in so many of the titles. However, every once in a while I'll find a title that intrigues me, and decide to give it a go. Usually, however, I end up getting these titles from either the library or the online library app, as that was if the book isn't what I'm expecting, I don't end up having to regret spending the money on it. Young Adult Contemporaries used to be my absolute favorite genre. I voraciously read each and every one I could find, and I used to love so many of them. Unfortunately, in the last few years I've started to notice a downwards trend within this genre.  They are no longer clean or cutesy, and instead are chocked full of inappropriate content, and I find myself really having to weed through the available titles. I've gotten a lot fussier over the last couple of years about the types of content I allow myself to read, watch and listen to, and I've honestly  gotten to the point where I don't often pick up a secular young adult title anymore, unless I know good and sure that the author keeps them fairly clean. We had a wonderful night away celebrating his birthday a little early, and getting some Christmas shopping done. There's so much hurt and smallness and evil, and it's heartbreaking watching a world that needs Jesus, and yet turns to anything else instead. I'm praying for my city, my province, my country, and the world right now, and I pray that more and more people will have their eyes opened to the enemy's lies, and the truth of our Heavenly Father. I'm one of those crazy readers who loves to read Christmas reads year round, especially if I'm having a particularly hard week as I always find them kind of soothing and uplifting. However, there's always something extra special about getting to read Christmas stories during the months of November and December, as they feel extra festive and atmospheric.  I'm often lamented the fact in the past that there isn't a lot of young adult Christmas reads.
